Today we’d like to introduce you to McKenzie Oha.
Hi McKenzie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My childhood dream was to open a hair salon, ever since I could remember that was always my life goal! I had childhood cancer and I remember the hospital treated a bunch of the young girls to a “spa day.” I’ll never forget how beautiful I felt that day and I think that’s where my motivation comes from when I have anybody in my chair.
I want them to feel their best and the power a woman feels when they get a “new do” is just unexplainable! I and my salon specialize in hair extensions! This is not an easy service to do! My team and I always take tons of training to be better than we were yesterday! I’ve worked ever since I was able to and just saved everything I could to open my first salon! Besides working my butt off for years saving, I think, I was able to achieve opening such a successful salon at such a young age because I care about every single person that walks into it.
I’ve had my west Bloomfield salon for two years now, I just recently opened my second location in Shelby TWP in May! I currently am now getting ready to open my 3rd salon and am converting it into salon suites! I also have such amazing girls that work for me who make my job so exciting and easy!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
If you’ve ever owned a business you really do know the true meaning behind “blood, sweat, and tears.” I think if owning and operating multiple businesses was that easy everyone would do it! It definitely takes ALOT of your time.
I’ve given up a lot just to be exactly where I’m at and I’m totally okay with it! I wouldn’t trade my life for anything! I think everything always works out the way it’s supposed to but I definitely wouldn’t be able to do it without my amazing family! I’ve also learned you cannot please everyone you meet!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Two locations in West Bloomfield and Shelby TWP!
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I love podcasts! I don’t really have too much time to sit and read as much as I’d like to! I typically listen to anything business-related or something to do with hairdressers! I think it’s important to pay attention to things you listen to and read every day! That is what will either slow you down or motivate you.
