Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeff Breuhan.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Throughout high school, I worked with my dad who was a builder and a teacher. After getting experience in the trades, I wanted to give the electrical side a try. I joined the electrical union in traverse city and completed a five year apprenticeship through them while working for multiple different contractors in a variety of settings. I gained experience in residential, commercial, as well as industrial work places. After completing my apprenticeship, I began working for an electrical company in the gas and oil industry. I was a foreman for that specific company for about three years before I decided to start an electrical company.
One of my apprentices had just completed his apprenticeship and became a journeyman. At that time and we decided to partner up and do our own thing. We have had our own company for a little over a year and a half now.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Starting out (as most new businesses experience) was a rough road. We now have to handle not just the work but the office aspect that goes along with the trade. Accounting, bidding, managing and coordination of projects. We got all of that figured out fairly quick and are now on a smoother path.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We work on a variety of electrical projects from residential to industrial. Both my business partner and I received great training through the apprenticeship program the electrical union provided us with.
