Today we’d like to introduce you to Alyson Pfeiffer.
Hi Alyson, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Roller skating has been a part of my life for almost as long as I can remember. I started skating when I was just **3 years old**, but my family’s connection to the sport began long before me. My mom had been skating her entire life, and she was the person who first introduced me to this incredible world.
At three years old, I obviously couldn’t have understood just how much this sport would eventually mean to me. My mom simply shared something she loved with her daughter, but in doing so, she gave me something that would shape nearly every chapter of my life.
Roller skating has given me more than I could ever count. It shaped me as a child, teaching me discipline, perseverance, confidence, and what it meant to work toward something. But what I didn’t realize then was that skating would continue shaping me just as much as an adult. It would influence the person I became, the career I chose, the community I built, and ultimately the way I wanted to impact the lives of others.
When I was in high school, I became interested in helping teach younger skaters. My mom brought me on as a coach, and that experience completely changed the way I looked at the sport. As I went on to college, I realized that even if I didn’t want to physically skate myself anymore, I wasn’t ready to walk away from roller skating. I loved coaching too much.
In fact, I began finding even more joy in watching my athletes accomplish a new skill than I ever felt accomplishing one myself. Seeing the excitement on a child’s face when something finally clicks, watching their confidence grow, and knowing I had a small part in helping them get there became incredibly rewarding.
In 2020, I graduated from the University of Michigan with a bachelor’s degree in International Business, with a focus in Finance and minors in German and Economics. Like many graduates, I entered the traditional 9-to-5 world while also trying to navigate life during COVID. It didn’t take long for me to realize that lifestyle wasn’t for me. My time was being taken away from the things and people I loved most—including skating.
Then, in 2021, life changed when my mom was diagnosed with cancer.
I made the decision to leave my 9-to-5 job and focus on what mattered most: my family and skating. What started as a decision to be present during one of the most difficult times in our lives ultimately became the beginning of something bigger than I could have imagined.
From there, I built AP Rollerskating into the program and community we have today.
What I’m most proud of isn’t simply what our athletes accomplish on skates. It’s who they become along the way. We have built a community where families support one another, athletes encourage their teammates, and coaches truly care about the kids they teach. Our athletes have grown into some of the best skaters in our state, and we take tremendous pride in the quality of training we provide—but medals and skills are only part of the story.
As AP Rollerskating continued to grow, I also knew I wanted to find a way to give back to the athletes who give so much to this sport. In 2025, we launched a **college scholarship program for our competitive athletes**.
These kids dedicate countless hours to practices, lessons, competitions, traveling, and becoming the best athletes and people they can be. They invest so much of themselves into the sport they love, and I believe it’s important that we invest in their futures, too.
So far, AP Rollerskating has awarded **$3,000 toward our athletes’ future education**, allowing them to put those funds toward the educational path of their choosing. We are incredibly proud to offer a scholarship program at a level that we believe is unique among skating clubs in the United States—and this is only the beginning. My hope is to continue growing the program year after year so that as AP Rollerskating grows, our ability to give back grows right along with it.
Because our job isn’t just to develop great skaters. It’s to help develop incredible young people and support them long after they leave the skating floor.
AP Rollerskating is about building character. It’s about resilience when something doesn’t come easily. It’s about self-discipline, confidence, lifelong friendships, hard work, and learning to keep going after a fall. And above all else, it’s about having fun and loving the journey.
When I look back, it’s incredible to think that all of this started with my mom sharing the sport she loved with her three-year-old daughter. She gave me roller skating, but in many ways, roller skating helped give me the person I am today.
Now, I have the privilege of passing that gift forward.
I get to watch kids walk through our doors and discover the same sport that shaped me. I get to watch them fall, get back up, accomplish something they once thought they couldn’t do, build friendships, grow in confidence, and become stronger versions of themselves.
Maybe that’s what makes this all so meaningful to me. I know firsthand that what we’re teaching these kids today can stay with them long after they take their skates off.
**This is more than roller skating.**
**This is growth in motion.**
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
there were many times i doubted myself and what i could do. unfortunately young coaches are often frowned upon and the skating world felt lonely for a really long time.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about AP Rollerskating?

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success is being 100% happy and confident in what you do. No matter what obstacles get thrown your way, you have the drive to power through it. You know its just a chatper but not the whole story. The entire journey (good and bad) is what shapes your goals to where you want to be. There is beauty in it and we often forget to enjoy the ride, even when its not enjoyable.
