Today we’d like to introduce you to Becky Ashcraft.
Hi Becky, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey really stems from a combination of personal transformation and a deep-seated desire to leave a positive legacy.
Five years ago, during a hike up the ‘M’ in Bozeman, Montana, a chance conversation made me reflect heavily on my family’s legacy of service and community contribution. It sparked a pivotal question in me: ‘What is my legacy?’ I realized I wasn’t reaching my full potential, which prompted me to dive headfirst into learning about functional health, nutrition, and mental toughness.
I realized that to help others, I had to help myself first. I shifted away from ‘all-or-nothing’ thinking and started taking control of my own health through small, consistent, daily habits. Over time, those steady changes added up to a complete mind-and-body overhaul.
Earlier in my life, after going through a divorce, paddleboarding became a major healing outlet for me, eventually leading me to become a certified instructor. The core principles I learned on the water—Destination (where you’re going), Direction (how to adjust your stance), and Drive (reigniting your inner fire)—became the exact foundation for how I guide people today.
Today, as an HCI Certified Life and Health Coach, I pay that experience forward. Rather than focusing on someone’s past, I help people look toward the future, unlock their full potential, and build sustainable habits one step at a time. My focus is on honoring my family’s legacy by building my own—helping people live healthier, more productive, and deeply fulfilling lives.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road. My journey involved navigating personal, physical, and mindset challenges along the way.
Going through a divorce at 40 was a painful and major life hurdle, which ultimately led me to find paddleboarding as a critical outlet for healing and personal renewal.
I didn’t really know it at the time but I suffered through a period where my health, energy, and daily habits were severely off track, which included eating far below my required calorie needs, repeating the same routine without real benefits, and dealing with fatigue, irritability, and poor sleep. All that led me to a lumbar injury that had me sidelined for 6 months. I felt broken but not beaten.
Years of practice getting out of my head and comfort zone had me shifting towards my own mental toughness, breaking goals into small, manageable daily tasks, and building consistency over time.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Grit & Glide Coaching?
Grit & Glide Coaching helps women and individuals navigate major life transitions—whether career pivots, relationship changes, or personal transformations—by bridging the power of mental toughness with aligned momentum. Built on the core philosophy that true transformation requires both Grit (resilience, discipline, and daily execution) and Glide (alignment, flow, and purpose-driven focus), my practice guides clients through radical shifts without burnout.
I offer 1 on 1 life and health coaching. Sessions are action-oriented, future-focused guidance using a framework centered on Destination (setting clear targets), Direction (refining strategy and habits), and Drive (reigniting inner passion).
My coaching has a strong functional wellness integration where my clients learn to develop a sustainable mindset and health habit shifts that favor of daily incremental progress. Rather than dwelling on the past, Grit & Glide empowers clients to take ownership of their future, unlock their full potential, and build a lasting personal legacy.
Additionally, I have hosted and met with hundreds of individuals through my mental toughness workshop that discuss immersive experiences and is designed to help individuals build emotional regulation, establish non-negotiable standards, and build lasting resilience for their next chapter.
How do you think about luck?
Luck…both the kind that feels like bad luck in the moment and the kind that looks like a happy coincidence…has played a key role in shaping my life and business. I’ve found that luck is usually just the spark; what matters is how you turn it into momentum.
I’d say that bad luck is a reframe for growth. Going through a divorce and facing a point in my life where my physical and mental energy were completely drained certainly felt like bad luck at the time. But looking back, those tough seasons acted as powerful trigger. They forced me to slow down, rethink my life, and build true mental toughness. Without those struggles, I wouldn’t have discovered my passion for paddleboarding, the path towards functional health, or finding resilience I teach my clients today.
To me, good luck is an opportunity to seize. The chance encounter I had during that hike up the “M” felt like pure good luck. But that moment only became life-changing because I was open to the conversation and willing to reflect deeply on the question it raised: ‘What is my legacy?’ That lucky moment pushed me to launch Grit & Glide Coaching and dedicate my work to helping others unlock their potential.
I feel that luck alone doesn’t build results. It takes fortitude to do the work daily, and courage to move with purpose when the right door opens. Luck may set the stage, but it’s commitment that determines the outcome.
