Today we’d like to introduce you to Maria Becerra-Caldwell.
Hi Maria, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I left the corporate world in 2024 to pursue a dream that had been on my heart for years. As a proud Latina, I come from very humble beginnings. My parents came to the United States in search of opportunity, and some of my earliest memories are of our family working in the Michigan blueberry fields. Watching them work tirelessly to build a better life taught me the value of perseverance and never taking opportunities for granted.
My own path hasn’t always been easy, but every challenge has shaped the woman I am today. I started working at 14 years old and learned early that if I wanted to build a different future, I had to be willing to work for it. Along the way, I also learned that success isn’t measured by what you have. It’s measured by the lives you impact, the relationships you build, and the legacy you leave behind.
After earning my cosmetology license, I began building my business independently and eventually founded Artistry & Bloom, a beauty collective centered around artistry, education, and community. We moved into our new studio this past April, and while we’re still in the early stages, my mission has remained the same: to create a space where clients feel cared for and beauty professionals feel supported, encouraged, and empowered to grow.
If there’s one thing I hope people take away from my story, it’s that where you begin doesn’t have to determine where you end up. Our circumstances may shape us, but they don’t define us. With hard work, faith, and the willingness to keep moving forward, it’s possible to build a life that once felt out of reach.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Building a business while navigating everyday life has taught me that challenges don’t wait until you’re “ready.” There have been seasons of personal loss, setbacks, uncertainty, and moments of self-doubt. I’ve also learned that not everyone will understand or support your vision, and that’s okay.
What has kept me moving forward is staying rooted in my purpose. I’ve learned to quiet the outside noise, trust my instincts, and keep showing up even when progress feels slow. Every obstacle has strengthened my resilience and reminded me why I started in the first place. I truly believe the most meaningful things are built one faithful step at a time.

I specialize in lash extensions, Korean lash lifts, brow lamination, brow shaping, and face and body waxing services. I believe technical excellence is the foundation of what I do, which is why I’m deeply committed to continuing my education and refining my craft.
What sets me apart is that I don’t just see myself as a beauty professional. I see myself as someone building a business with longevity and purpose. I’m intentional about every part of Artistry & Bloom, from the systems we create and the education we pursue to the opportunities we provide for other artists to grow.
I’m most proud of having the courage to start from the ground up and turn an idea into something real. Although we’re still in the early stages, my vision has always been bigger than myself. My goal is to help elevate the beauty industry by creating a business rooted in excellence, integrity, and community.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Don’t be afraid to step outside your comfort zone and get involved in communities, networking events, or educational opportunities in your area. Not every opportunity will be the right fit, and that’s okay. Every experience teaches you something and brings you one step closer to where you’re meant to be.
Look to the people who inspire you and don’t be afraid to invest in mentorship. Some of the greatest lessons I’ve learned have come from simply asking questions, staying curious, and remaining open to learning.
Most importantly, keep showing up. Growth takes time, and consistency will take you further than perfection ever will. And if I can ever be a resource or encouragement to someone else along their journey, I’m always happy to help.
