Today we’d like to introduce you to Audra Queen.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Being a professional ballet dancer was the only path I pursued in life from the age of 5. All decisions were made to support this goal and dream. And I achieved it too. There were some side quests that involved college and even earning a Masters degree (of course in dance). But it was always done with the intent of dance being my profession in some capacity.
In 2018, after being married for 8 years, I got divorced at the age of 33. Now a single mother to a 4 and 2 yr old, the trajectory of my life was unclear. I had a blank slate to work with and I didn’t want to waste this unique opportunity. So I chose to turn to God and ask him what I could do with this open path before me. I spent months in contemplation and journaling. On one of these nights I received a strong answer from God that I was to start a business teaching virtual dance lessons. This was not what I expected.
I never desired to own a business, and this was 1.5 years pre-covid where virtual dance lessons weren’t common yet. But, it checked all the boxes of my needs in this new season of life AND it sparked a curiosity in me. So that night I googled “how to start a business in Louisiana” and went from there. In a few months I had my first virtual dance clients and it continued.
When the pandemic hit, I became an instant resource to help dance businesses around the world shift to online over night. I offered free workshops during the lockdown, and business owners started hiring me to coach them 1:1 or train their dance teachers. That was my unexpected pivot into coaching.
During this professional transition, I was also on a personal journey. I entered the world of personal development to grow from my past and embrace the person I knew I could become. Unintentionally my focus on personal development started to overlap with the business coaching I was doing, focusing on the person behind the business. This approach very quickly created lasting results in both the individual and their business and I knew I was on to something.
Since the beginning of my business in 2018, it has seen a few iterations, always aligning with my growth personally and professionally. I even started a second coaching business specifically to focus on women who needed similar support that were not connected to the dance world.
In the beginning of 2026 I felt guidance from God again, this time to merge my two businesses together to allow for the next season of my business to come to fruition. Today, I now have one business, bringing both communities together and supporting even more individuals because I have reduced my business costs and time by half.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been far from a smooth road. Starting a business because of divorce was just the beginning.
Professionally I had to learn how to build and run a business. I had to overcome severe imposter syndrome and navigate the world of virtual dance when it wasn’t a thing yet.
Personally I struggled financially and needed to sell my home. That led to being a part from my children for 6 months while getting back on my feet. Once reunited my kids and I moved in with my best friend for a year because housing still was not affordable for me.
During this season of home uncertainty, I also was diagnosed with ADHD and autism. That in itself is a difficult path to take, processing, learning and getting familiar with your true self after thinking you were something else all your life.
At the age of 38 I unknowingly entered the world of perimenopause. I felt like my body was being hijacked. All of a sudden I physically didn’t know myself or connect with it. It took over a year to understand what was going on and then another to work on managing the symptoms. That directly impacted my ability to show up in my business and had some negative consequences professionally.
I did remarry to an amazing man who has been such an empowering partner in my and my children’s lives. It didn’t mean the challenges ended though. We actually live in two places because he is also divorced and has children he shares custody with. So we drive 7 hours back and forth between our homes.
Right after I turned 40 a myriad of things went wrong for about 9 months. My car was mistakingly repossessed and had to borrow money from my parents to get it back. While on a 3 day getaway for my birthday, my best friends mother unexpectedly passed away and I shifted my full attention to supporting her. This extended my stay apart from my husband from a few weeks to 5 weeks.
When returning to my place before continuing on to my husbands, I discovered my apartment and been broken into. I returned to my place a week after staying with my husband and learned the power company had accidentally shut my power off instead of my neighbors, so my fridge was broken and all the food spoiled.
I no longer felt safe in my home and made the decision to move, which was not something I planned on doing for a long time. We moved into my new place and thankfully everything quieted down. We had a few months of peace during the holidays before January of 2026 when I learned I wouldn’t be teaching at the university for the spring semester, and my part-time coaching job on the side was being paused. My own business had slowed down due to all the personal challenges that had been occurring for the majority of 2025.
Instead of just sitting in this empty space, I asked God what this endless time was meant for. That was when I was guided to merge my two businesses into one and things have been moving forward since.
I don’t believe this is the end of my challenges. I know more will come because that is life. What is different now is my mental approach to them and how I run my business so when I need to step away it doesn’t halt that side of things.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson I have learned along the journey is that if you want to live with joy and thrive, your circumstances changing won’t be what makes that possible. It will be the change in how you view your circumstances.
I have had so many challenges for almost a decade, and about half way though that time when I was focusing on my mindset and no longer being a victim of my circumstances, is when my life changed.
I didn’t have more money in the bank, a new home, car or clothes. All that changed was my perspective. I developed gratitude for what I already had and recognized that is enough. My needs have always been met and I am even blessed with some pleasures in life too.
I truly believe this is because from the beginning of my business journey, I chose to turn to God and lean on him through it all. It is His guidance that helped me to have that perspective shift which has changed my life forever.
