Today we’d like to introduce you to Luis Colindres.
Hi Luis, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
At the end of my college career, one of the many exciting themed-projects we received in class was designing an album cover. Something about that process directed me into that world which got me where I am so far.
During my senior year and a couple years after I made cover art for many musicians I reached out to through email and that eventually developed into getting more wider projects like designing stage visuals or other animated components to the branding of a musical artist. My illustrations then expanded to broader work like painting murals, selling original works, and more time dedicated to an audiovisual project I’m a part of called Frash Magazine.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No smooth roads here! Some of those early criticisms in your career thicken your skin. The excitement of the unexpected can bring fun projects but can create schedule conflicts. The industry can be fast-paced at times, for better or worse.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My love for movies, hiking volcanos in Guatemala, and attending live music all inspire me to create exciting, illustrated worlds.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I was always drawing dinosaurs and when Lord of the Rings came out, giant knight battle scenes. I was always inspired by the imagination of movies and the worlds they would take us to.
Super nerd, I enjoyed all the original Need For Speed/Midnight Club games.
