Today we’d like to introduce you to Izzy Savides.
Hi Izzy, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Hello! I have been making music passionately for just about as long as I’ve been alive. It started when I was three, playing along to the radio on my abuela’s keyboard. I started messing around on guitar at five, then drums, then played trumpet and French horn. In middle school, I would arrange pieces for my school band and orchestra, which led to me trying to digure out song production in high school. I also started playing bass at this time, and to this day I have not stopped. In high school, I also secured a small record deal and released my first EP in freshman year of college. I like to create worlds with each song, and I am completely addicted to creating them. Currently, I am studying at Berklee College of Music in Boston and finishing my first album! I’m so excited for all of the music I will hear and write in the future.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It certainly has not been a smooth road, although my passion has been an almost-religious guide through whatever struggles I do face. Aside from many challenges in my upbringing and personal life, music is not an easy life route. Whether it’s losing sleep to practice, spending all my money on a last-minute repair, getting cussed out by a bandleader, or having my music rejected by a client, there are many bumps in this road. I experience a lot of different types of rejection especially because I wear a lot of musical hats. Sometimes I spend hours recording a bass part for a song and then the artist says they actually just want something super simple. Or I spend weeks preparing for an audition and don’t get the part- or worse, not even get a reply. Social media is a beast as well- being an artist means needing to constantly post content about my art, trying to show the world why they need to listen to it. I am so passionate about my music, but making content is a humbling and difficult skill to master. You have to develop a skin thick enough to where you can post a very meaningful video and be prepared for someone to say something very mean in the comments or have the video not get any views. However, all of this is to say that in the end, it is one-thousand percent worth it for me. I would not have my life any other way.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a music artist, multi-instrumentalist, producer, and singer. I love all of these roles equally, and they all teach me about each other. I’m known for making music that is a bit left-of-center and very alternative. It features bass guitar a lot, as it’s my main instrument. I also write, record, produce, mix, and master all of my songs. Historically, I’ve made a lot of dark-sounding music, but most recently, I have been co-producing an album inspired by love. I am very excited to see where this more positive direction takes me, and even more excited to see how people react to the album.
How do you think about luck?
I would consider myself a very lucky person. Though I know I am skilled, so many of my personal achievements or high moments happened because of a random encounter or someone taking a chance on me. I feel blessed to have known so many generous people and to have been the recipient of their faith financially. I got a full scholarship to Berklee College of Music because of a chance encounter I had with a member of Berklee’s DEI division who visited my school (shoutout Natara Gray!). If I didn’t show up to school that day (which was likely for me that year) I never would have met her, never would have auditioned for my school, and wouldn’t meet any of the incredible people I know today, including the incredible Izzie Bannister who I am making an album with. I am so grateful for the luck I have been graced with.
