Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaquan Wilson.
Hi Jaquan, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My story isn’t your ordinary I was born in Toledo, OH birthed by a young mother not knowing what life was trying to prep her for. Growing up my mother built raising me on successful black role models on television it wasn’t too many around the neighborhood so she would read stories on suit & tie type of guys (that’s what she would always call me lol) & always made it seem like anything was possible even when I told her I wanted to be an astronaut she took me to a 4-week science camp, I’ve always felt like I can do anything I put my mind to because of that driving force she carried I lived in Lansing Mi growing up while spending my summers in Alabama, than 3rd grade I moved to Brooklyn, NY & that’s where my music career was shaped I lived hart st & Broadway address 468! Which is why I go by 468Snupe NY shaped me into the person I am & built character it took a piece of my childhood away having to grow up faster than other kids, we were homeless for a long period of time while still making way day by day so it was no time for playing or being a kid my mom was more strict & pushed hard on there’s a time & place & due to our situation it wasn’t many moments to just be a kid we were always on the move & had to stick together my mother had us in church 3x a week because the church was helping keep our family Faith & spirits high it was a African church they embraced us with open arms & a special women named “Candice” opened her doors for us eventually we moved back to Michigan & life was challenging at first due to the change Mi was way different than i remembered & I got used to being in N.Y, I honestly lived in every borough in N.Y due to being placed in different shelters not due to us being financially stable but eventually we adjusted while still keeping NY ties my mom would still send me & my sister back to NY to spend the summer with my Sisters GodMom (who me also met in NY) & my aunt so that feeling is still there honestly I started taking music serious once I felt like I ran out of options as far as making something of myself, I seen how fast I was progressing & how my love for the art grew & I enjoyed the improvement & success just kept breeding my confidence to where now I’m here typing up my life story for Voyage Magazine God Is Amazing.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The biggest struggle was staying on track even when the inevitable happens, like family loses. I have lost a lot on the way to success & the hardest thing to do is not ponder in it & take breaks, I’m in a game where it’s no pausing
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I make music, I specialize in everything I’m known for my hit single “Naked” & im most proud of how far I came truly & my faith & will to learn is what set me apart from others I love in taking information wether I apply it or not I always listen & I’m very observant
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
3yrs ago I drove to Atlanta with 1 headlight no insurance bad registration $150 with a living room floor as my living space than my living situating changed after 3months & I was sleeping in my car outside a boxing gym I was training at for 2 months all while looking for an opportunity & just going around taking in the greater parts of life
