Today we’d like to introduce you to Bailey Robinson.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My hairstyling journey started in high school. During my junior and senior years, I had the opportunity to attend cosmetology school while completing high school. The summer after I graduated in 2018, I took my state board written and practical exams, passed, and officially received my cosmetology license!
My family took a huge leap of faith in me and built a complete salon space right in our home. It was truly a dream come true. The space was designed to feel like a real salon, but with the intimate, one-on-one experience of having a private stylist. I’m incredibly grateful for that opportunity, and I’m still working in that very same space today. My clients love the privacy and personalized experience it gives them, and I believe having that environment played a huge role in jumpstarting my career.
When I was first building my clientele, I relied heavily on social media, especially Instagram, to showcase my work and connect with potential clients. Over time, I continued to grow, learn, and find new opportunities that allowed me to expand my skills and my business.
One of my favorite parts of my career is being my own boss and having the creative freedom to build my business in a way that feels true to me. Of course, entrepreneurship comes with its challenges, but I genuinely wouldn’t want it any other way. I’m proud of how far I’ve come and of the business I’ve created from the ground up. What started as a passion in high school has grown into the career and life I dreamed of, and I’m excited to see where it takes me next.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. My start in this career has been unconventional, especially because I’ve never worked in a traditional salon outside of my family home. As I began taking a different path, I had other professionals in the industry question my experience and, at times, put me down because my journey looked different from theirs.
That never meant I wasn’t putting in the work to gain experience outside of my own salon space. In fact, I believe I’ve been given some incredible opportunities that I may not have experienced in a traditional salon environment.
I’ve built a relationship with a beauty supply company that has a private studio where they host classes with top brand educators, and I’ve had the privilege of attending countless classes there. These experiences have put me in the room with other hairstylists and industry professionals, and because the environment is so expressive and open, I’ve been able to build genuine, meaningful relationships within the industry.
I also have a relationship with a local boudoir photographer who offers professional hair and makeup as part of their packages. Through that connection, I’ve had the opportunity to work alongside incredibly talented makeup artists who have helped get my name out into the wedding hairstyling world. Those experiences have been priceless and, in my opinion, have helped set me apart from others.
Looking back, I’m incredibly grateful that I didn’t allow the opinions of others to hold me back. My path may not look traditional, but I’ve learned that there isn’t only one way to build a successful career. I’ve chosen to create my own path, seek out opportunities wherever I can, and continue learning and growing along the way.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a hairstylist who specializes in blondes, hair extensions, and travel hairstyling. This career is truly my passion, and I feel fulfilled by what I do every single day. Even on the hard days or the bad days, I remind myself that this is the life I’ve always dreamed of.
I like to think I’m known for my blonde transformations. I’m able to create bright, almost translucent, white-blonde results while prioritizing the health and integrity of the hair and using top-of-the-line products. This type of service is extremely meticulous and challenging, which makes the final result feel even more rewarding and satisfying.
I’m incredibly proud of myself for never giving up on my goals. I’ve always believed in my business ideas and my vision, even when others didn’t necessarily see it. I’m so grateful that I trusted myself, followed my plans, and continued moving forward. I’ll always continue pushing the boundaries of what I’m capable of because I truly believe no idea or dream is too big.
What sets me apart is my passion—not only for my career, but for hair itself. I make it my mission to ensure that every client feels seen, heard, and genuinely pampered. The client experience is incredibly important to me. I’m always looking for new ways to elevate my time with each client and make their experience in my chair feel luxurious, relaxing, and special. I want my clients to leave not only loving their hair, but also feeling confident, cared for, and excited to come back.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson I’ve learned throughout my journey is to trust myself and not let other people’s opinions define what success is supposed to look like for me.
My path has never been traditional, and there have definitely been moments when I questioned whether I was doing things the “right” way. When you’re building something of your own, it can be easy to compare yourself to people who took a completely different path or to let someone else’s doubts make you question your own abilities. I’ve learned that just because my journey looks different doesn’t mean it’s any less valid.
I’ve also learned that believing in yourself doesn’t mean you have to have everything figured out. There have been so many times throughout my career when I’ve had to take a leap of faith, try something new, or put myself in rooms where I was still learning. Those experiences have taught me that growth happens when you’re willing to step outside of your comfort zone and continue showing up, even when you don’t have all the answers.
Most importantly, I’ve learned to trust my vision. I’ve had ideas and goals that other people may not have understood at first, but I’ve realized that I don’t need everyone else to see the vision as clearly as I do. I just need to be willing to put in the work to bring it to life.
I think that lesson has shaped not only the stylist I’ve become, but also the business owner and person I am today. I’m much more confident in trusting my instincts, embracing what makes my journey different, and reminding myself that there isn’t one right way to build the career or life you want.
