Today we’d like to introduce you to Mark Bonto.
Hi Mark, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was always into comedy, comedians, funny TV shows, and movies. Growing up, my parents would let me stay up late to watch Johnny Carson’s monologue during school nights. When my dad brought home the Sunday morning newspaper, while my brothers fished out the comics and sports sections, I’d go right to the Parade magazine and go to the “My Favorite Jokes”section in the back. I would also religiously watch the old “Make Me Laugh” TV show, and never would’ve dreamed I’d be working with a lot of those comedians in the near future.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
In the early days, it wasn’t always easy to get on shows. You had to travel far and be constantly on the lookout and hunt for any shows to get on. These days it’s a lot easier to get into it, with all the technology, and so many open mics and venues with comedy.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m mostly known for my extremely high energy style. I’m incredibly proficient at quick jokes and getting numerous laughs per minute. I specialize in “trimming the fat” off jokes and rarely do any with long set ups. I’m proud of the awards and accolades I’ve accumulated over the decades. This is my 48th year in comedy and I’ve loved every minute of it!
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I’m an incredibly positive and happy person all the time, and I think that shines on stage. I’m very giving, and some of my biggest and fulfilling ongoing accomplishments, are molding younger comics, giving them venues and stages and full great audiences, and watching them grow as a comedian.
