Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Stehouwer.
Hi Lauren, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Jewelry has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember (I’m a little obsessed). I turned a passion into a business 13 years ago. I find inspiration all around me and use it to constantly create new pieces for my shop. I’m a little Bohemian obsessed and a minimalist by nature- my pieces tend to create a lovely balance between the two. Custom and stamped pieces have become my favorite. I create my design and create my pieces in my in-home studio located in a small Lake Michigan community.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
As with any adventure, there have been ups and downs. It’s hard to navigate a small business alongside the changes that life itself has. Almost 9 years ago, I was a top Etsy seller and had my jewelry line in 30 small boutiques across America. Etsy made changes, my life made changes and the price of materials…well that made major changes. All of these things caused me to step back and reflect. I slowly pulled away from the majority of my wholesale accounts to concentrate on the retail aspect. I also pivoted and poured more energy into social media. All changes require creativity and a positive outlook but they are quite literally always worth it.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
The last few years, I have really tried to remind others and focus on all the wonderful aspects of small business! Large companies will always have their place but small local businesses are so special! The handwritten note that’s attached. The customization. The high-quality materials. The personal customer service. The fact that I literally do a happy dance with every purchase alert. Small business is where all the heart is!
