Daily Inspiration: Meet Alysia Yvette

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alysia Yvette.

Hi Alysia, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started as an artist at the age of 14. I had gotten in trouble at home and the only thing I had was a sticker. I drew what was on the sticker and that’s where I learned I could draw. I went from drawing to pastels and charcoal. And then I moved to painting and truly fell in love.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road has not been smooth. I went through divorce about 4 years ago and it became very hard to want to paint. I went from being a stay at home mom, to a single working mom. I’ve always tried to get back into it and make money from it, but it got very difficult trying to maintain. I also struggled with WHAT to paint. I know my paintings are meant to bring others into encounter with God. But that was not my focus. It seemed like I was knocking against the process of everything. So many things all at once.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a painter! My medium of choice is oil and acrylic paint. I am most proud that I’ve been able to teach children about painting and seeing themselves in a beautiful way through painting. I want them to see themselves through the eyes of God and I believe this is what sets me apart. My love for God and people. I want to see people encounter God and know just how loved they are. We live in a world where love is rare. It doesn’t have to be.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
What I like best is the “country-ness” of it. Lots of land and nature. And when it’s time to have an event, the community shows up. I love the farm life.

What I like least is that there isn’t much as far as art. I have to go to the surrounding cities that have more of an art interest.
