Today we’d like to introduce you to Noelle Frye.
Hi Noelle, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started a cheesecake business called Noella’s Cheesecakes in January of this year. My mother is a baker and has had a bakery for over 30 years called Go Go’s Bake Shoppe. As a kid, I had to be at the bakery everyday and I was never interested in baking. Last year, a friend of mine said he wanted a cheesecake and what was so ironic is that I had been thinking about making a cheesecake that week, so I offered to make a cheesecake for him. After I made him a cheesecake, his friends started wanting cheesecakes after tasting his, so I made it a business. My family was surprised since I was never interested in baking, but it has be came a pure enjoyment for me.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No. I truly enjoy baking, but entrepreneurship has its struggles. Some weeks I get orders and some weeks I don’t. It gets frustrating, but without some obstacles my goals wouldn’t be worth while. It’s makes me creative, it keeps me on my feet. It makes me think of other ways to advertise or others flavors to create.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Noella’s Cheesecakes is a home based cheesecake business in Detroit, Michigan that specializes in cheesecakes. Some of my most sold flavors are strawberry crunch, strawberry topping, strawberry lemonade and peach cobbler. I can make just about any flavor into a cheesecake. I take orders mainly through social media and by phone. To order, please follow me on Instagram @noellascheesecakes and send a DM. Also, you can text or call me at 313-416-9925. I’m located in the Detroit area and I also deliver. I’m open to requests of other flavors that may not be on my menu.
Taste is very important but I also take a lot of pride in my visual presentation of my cheesecakes. The first thing people see is how my cheesecakes look. Growing up in a bakery, I watched my mother decorate her cakes and she’s an amazing artist, but although I’m not as skilled at decorating as she is, I think about what she would do while adding my whipped cream and toppings on my cheesecakes. I think my variety of flavors sets me apart from others. I have a long menu, banana pudding , Turtle, Biscoff, Oreo, Snickers, Reese, cherry topping, sweet potato, caramel apple crumble, just to name a few.
I’m honestly most proud of actually starting a business on my own. I didn’t think I was capable. As I keep going and learning, things can only get better from here on out.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I will be adding other menu items that pair well with cheesecakes. I plan to have a food truck of some sort or a storefront. I want to start off small and work my way up. Also, I see myself selling my cheesecakes in different restaurants and stores.
