Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Krieter.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started out helping children from other countries who had medical disabilities. We had one child, Laudys, who lived with us and had spina bifida and clubfoot. I loved seeing his progress—from being unable to walk to walking unassisted and flourishing. He received a lot of physical therapy, which inspired me to pursue a degree in physical therapy at Oakland University. I became a Board-Certified Orthopaedic Clinical Specialist in 2004, a designation held by only a small number of therapists in the state of Michigan. I worked at the OPC for 10 years and especially enjoyed working with the neurological and older adult populations. This led me to pursue continuing education focused on the brain and how it influences movement and performance. Eventually, this path led me to open my own practice, where I travel to clients and provide treatment in their homes. My company is Mind In Motion Performance Training, LLC. I love working with my clients and helping them achieve things they may not have thought were possible.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
In many ways, it has been a smooth road, particularly when it comes to finding people who need assistance. However, my experience working out of an office did not go as smoothly as I had hoped. Although it was challenging, I learned a great deal from the experience. I believe challenges are meant to help us grow, learn, and become better at what we do.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in looking at how the brain drives performance—whether that performance involves how you move, how you think, or how you combine the two.
Performance can mean sports-related activities, but it can also mean something as simple as walking to your mailbox, climbing a flight of stairs, or dancing at your child’s or grandchild’s wedding. Our brain is in charge of everything we do, and once we identify what your brain needs, performance can improve significantly. When I personally looked for a practitioner in Michigan who provided this type of treatment, I could find only three. I believe this service needs to be more readily available because I am seeing significant improvements in clients with complex needs. My goal is to make this approach available to a wider variety of people, whether through one-on-one treatment or group settings. What I am most proud of is the connection I make with my clients and the relationships we develop. My clients’ success is what drives me. I focus on nervous system regulation, pain reprocessing, and somatic work, all integrated with movement. By combining these approaches, I help clients better understand their bodies and brains while working toward improved performance and quality of life.
What makes you happy?
Spending time in nature, helping people achieve their performance goals, working out, and traveling all bring me joy. I also love spending time with animals—especially horses, dogs, and cats—as well as playing games with friends and family. I love growing things in my garden and cooking with what I grow. I was an avid runner and look forward to getting back on the trails. For now, I typically walk four to six days a week, spending time on the trails and in nature. There is something about being outdoors, moving my body, and connecting with the people, animals, and natural world around me that keeps me grounded and brings me happiness.
