Today we’d like to introduce you to Matteo Bruno Bellesia.
Hi Matteo Bruno, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started out in the late ’90s as a food and still-life photographer, with the occasional detour into fashion. Then, in the early 2000s, I somehow found myself behind a camera directing commercials for food brands like Ferrero, Lavazza, and Barilla — and I’ve pretty much been mixing photography and filmmaking ever since.
Today, I like to bring all of that experience together in the studio, creating images and videos and increasingly playing with AI as part of the process. I see it as another creative tool in the toolbox — one that can help me push things a little further and create something unexpected, unusual, and hopefully fun to look at.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a straight road. The industry has been constantly evolving, both in terms of technology and visual language, so I’ve always had to keep learning and experimenting with new tools. Over time, those tools have become more and more essential to creating work that feels fresh, interesting, and relevant.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a photo and video artist specializing in food and beverage. I bring years of experience in the industry, but I’ve always tried to keep a very close eye on what’s new — whether it’s camera technology, CGI, or, of course, AI today.
What I really enjoy is taking even the most classic situations and making them feel more beautiful, dynamic, and a little unexpected. I’m always looking for that sweet spot where strong aesthetics meet an engaging visual story.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I think AI will definitely keep giving us better and better tools to realistically reproduce both the look and the physical behavior of different materials and fluids. Traditional shooting will still have an important role, but I believe its value will increasingly be connected to authenticity rather than purely to aesthetics.
