Check Out Elijah Dancer-Rivera’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elijah Dancer-Rivera.

Hi Elijah, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My journey with Eli’s Custom Events has been a very personal one. What started as a passion for creating beautiful experiences has grown into a business that has become a huge part of who I am.

I’ve always been someone who pays attention to the little details. I love seeing an idea come to life and watching someone’s face light up when they walk into a room that has been transformed into something they imagined. That passion for creativity eventually pushed me to turn my love for decorating, designing, and creating memorable experiences into something bigger.

Building my business hasn’t always been easy. There have been moments when I questioned myself, moments when I had to figure things out as I went, and plenty of times when I had to keep believing in myself even when the next opportunity wasn’t guaranteed. But every event, every client, every challenge, and every lesson helped me grow.

Over time, Eli’s Custom Events has evolved from simply decorating events into creating complete experiences. From weddings and birthdays to baby showers, graduations, corporate events, and luxury celebrations, I’ve had the opportunity to bring so many different visions to life. I’ve learned that what I do isn’t just about balloons, linens, centerpieces, draping, or décor. It’s about creating a moment that people will remember.

One of the biggest things I’ve learned along the way is that you have to be willing to believe in your vision before everyone else can see it. There were times when I had to invest in myself, take risks, learn new things, and push through uncertainty. Every step taught me something about business, creativity, leadership, and myself.

Today, I’m proud of how far Eli’s Custom Events has come, but I also feel like I’m just getting started. My goal is to continue building a luxury event brand that people recognize for creativity, quality, professionalism, and unforgettable experiences.

For me, this business is about much more than making a profit. It’s about creating something that I can be proud of, giving people the celebrations they deserve, and proving to myself that a dream can become a reality when you are willing to work for it.

Looking back, I’m grateful for every person who trusted me with their special moments and every experience that helped shape me into the entrepreneur I am today. I’m excited about where Eli’s Customs
Event is going next, because I know there is still so much more for me to create.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it definitely has not been a smooth road. Building a business has come with a lot of challenges, and there have been moments when I wondered if I was doing the right thing or if my vision would ever become what I imagined.

One of the biggest struggles has been learning how to grow a business while also learning the business side of being an entrepreneur. Being creative is one thing, but understanding pricing, contracts, marketing, finances, client expectations, inventory, staffing, and everything that happens behind the scenes is a completely different challenge. I’ve had to learn a lot through experience, sometimes through mistakes.

There have also been times when I’ve had to deal with people who didn’t necessarily see my vision or understand the amount of work that goes into creating a luxury event. When you’re passionate about what you do, it can be difficult when someone only sees the finished room and doesn’t see the countless hours of planning, preparation, designing, transporting, installing, and breaking everything down.

There were also moments when I had to make difficult decisions about investing in my business. Sometimes you have to spend money before you make money, and taking those risks can be scary. I’ve had to learn when to say yes, when to say no, and when to trust my own instincts.

But honestly, I think those struggles helped shape me into the entrepreneur I am today. They taught me patience, resilience, confidence, and the importance of standing behind my work.

I’ve learned that setbacks don’t mean you’re failing. Sometimes they’re just part of the process of becoming better. Every difficult experience has given me an opportunity to learn something, improve my business, and come back stronger.

I wouldn’t change the journey because the hard moments make the accomplishments mean so much more. When I look at where Eli’s Custom Eventsis today, I know that it wasn’t built overnight. It was built through hard work, faith in my vision, lessons learned, and refusing to give up.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Eli’s Custom Events is a luxury event design and event experience company. I specialize in transforming spaces into beautiful, memorable environments that feel personal to each client. I work on weddings, birthdays, baby showers, graduations, corporate events, milestone celebrations, and other special occasions.

What I really specialize in is bringing someone’s vision to life. A client may come to me with a color palette, a Pinterest board, a few pictures, or sometimes just an idea in their head. My job is to take that vision and turn it into something they can actually walk into and experience.

I’m known for creating luxury, custom-designed events with a strong attention to detail. I love creating those “wow” moments—the first impression when guests walk into a room, the focal point everyone takes pictures in front of, the tablescape, the lighting, the draping, and all of the little details that make an event feel complete.

But what I’m most proud of isn’t necessarily one particular event. I’m most proud of the fact that I’ve built something that started with my creativity and turned into a business that people trust with some of the most important moments in their lives.

When someone allows me to design their wedding, birthday, baby shower, or milestone celebration, they are trusting me with memories that they may only get to create once. I don’t take that responsibility lightly.

I believe what sets me apart is that I don’t want my clients to feel like they’re getting a cookie-cutter event. I want their event to feel like them. I listen to what they want, but I also challenge myself creatively to figure out how we can take their idea to another level.

For me, luxury isn’t just about how much something costs or how extravagant a room looks. Luxury is about the experience, the details, the service, and how a client feels when everything comes together.

I also believe that my personality is a big part of what makes my business different. I’m very hands-on and passionate about what I do. When I take on an event, I don’t just want to decorate it—I want to be proud of the final product. I want my clients to walk into the room and say, “This is exactly what I dreamed of.”

That’s what keeps me going. I’m not just creating events; I’m creating experiences and memories that people will talk about long after the event is over.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
What makes me happiest is knowing that the things I do can bring joy to other people. Whether it’s creating a beautiful event for a client, spending time with the people I love, or simply seeing an idea that started in my head become something real, those moments mean a lot to me.

I’m naturally a creative person, so creating makes me happy. I love taking something that may start as just an idea and turning it into something people can see, feel, and experience. There’s something special about watching a client walk into their event for the first time and seeing their reaction. That moment makes all the long hours and hard work worth it.

Outside of my business, my family is a huge source of happiness for me. Being able to create a life and a home filled with love, memories, and experiences means more to me than anything material. The people I love remind me why I work so hard and why building something meaningful is important to me.

I also find happiness in growth. I love looking back and realizing that I’m not the same person or entrepreneur I was a few years ago. I’m constantly learning, dreaming bigger, and challenging myself to become better.

At the end of the day, I think what makes me happiest is purpose. I want to know that I’m doing something that matters—not only for myself, but for the people whose lives I get to be a part of. Whether I’m creating an unforgettable celebration or simply making someone feel special, that’s what gives me the greatest sense of fulfillment.
