Today we’d like to introduce you to Ammie Bouwman.
Hi Ammie, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
In 1996, I was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder and told I would struggle for the rest of my life. For the next 17 years, that seemed to be my reality. My journey included bankruptcy, divorce, deep brokenness, and seasons when hope felt far away.
But in 2013, everything changed.
Jesus completely transformed my life, bringing healing and setting me on a brand-new path. My testimony was eventually shared nationally on The 700 Club, but God wasn’t finished with my story.
In 2016, while visiting Israel, I felt God clearly calling me to tell my story—and tell it to the world. I came home, started a Facebook page, and simply began sharing what Jesus had done in my life while encouraging others who were struggling.
Tomorrow, August 18, we celebrate 10 years. What began with one person willing to share her story has grown into a community of more than 800,000 followers around the world.
Today, I am a Reverend, author, international speaker, and founder of For His Glory Ministry (FHGM). I have self-published more than 16 books, and FHGM has grown into a Virtual Church and Digital Mission Field, meeting people right where they are and reminding them that there is always hope.
Through our Recovery Program, we also walk alongside people facing mental health challenges, drug and alcohol addiction, and other life struggles—helping them find hope, healing, community, and a new way forward.
My life is living proof that your diagnosis, your brokenness, and your past do not get the final word. God does.
Thirteen years later, I am still telling my story—all For His Glory.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I have experienced many challenges over the last 10 years—both personally and in ministry. COVID-19 forced us to cancel our national women’s conference. I took a huge step of faith by leaving the security of the corporate world to pursue full-time ministry. In 2025, a serious car accident changed our family dynamics, resulting in my daughter and her two children coming to live with us. And throughout it all, there have been the inevitable growing pains of building and leading a ministry.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about For His Glory Ministry?
For His Glory Ministry (FHGM) is a global virtual church and digital mission field dedicated to meeting people right where they are—encouraging, equipping, and educating them through God’s Word. Our mission is to share the hope, healing, and transforming power of Jesus Christ while raising up disciples who will impact their families, communities, and the nations for His glory – bridging the gap, one person at a time.
While our office is located at City on a Hill in Zeeland, Michigan, our ministry extends far beyond a single location. Throughout West Michigan and beyond, we are actively encouraging, equipping, and educating individuals and communities with the hope and truth of God’s Word through our Recovery program, community events, and online programs and services.
One of the greatest parts of For His Glory Ministry is the variety of resources we are able to offer. Our goal is to remove barriers and give people opportunities to connect, grow, heal, and deepen their relationship with Jesus—wherever they are.
Our resources include a free FHGM Ministry App, giving people access to encouragement, teaching, ministry resources, and ways to stay connected right from their phones.
We offer counseling services and recovery coaching, providing individuals with personal support as they navigate recovery, difficult life circumstances, and their next steps forward. Our Recovery Program also includes both in-person and online recovery meetings, allowing us to create community beyond geographical boundaries.
Every week, FHGM provides an online church service, biblical teaching, and opportunities to participate in online Bible study. Our average online service reaches more than 80,000 viewers, with approximately 8,500 ThruPlays, demonstrating the incredible opportunity we have to take God’s Word beyond the walls of a traditional church building.
But our ministry isn’t only online. We believe strongly in creating opportunities for real, face-to-face community. Locally, we host community events, conferences, and other gatherings where people can connect, be encouraged, and grow together.
The 16+ books I have written and self-published have also become ministry resources, providing biblical encouragement, teaching, recovery support, and practical tools that people can continue using in their everyday lives.
What were you like growing up?
I was adventurous and full of life growing up. I loved Jesus from an early age and had a heart for telling others about Him. But when I was 11 years old, my parents divorced, and life began to change in ways I didn’t fully understand at the time.
For many years, I learned to hide behind a mask, trying to appear as though everything was okay and striving to be perfect on the outside, even when things felt very different on the inside.
In 1988, I graduated from high school and was accepted to Hope College. From the outside, it looked like I was moving forward and had everything together, but my journey was only beginning.
