Today we’d like to introduce you to Niya Williams.
Hi Niya, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Since I was little, I’ve always had a passion for dance, photography, and art. Once I graduated from high school, I started expanding those passions by buying a camera, modeling, painting on bigger canvases, designing my own clothes, and making my own jewelry.
Pouring into myself encouraged me to step out into my community and share my passions with others through collaboration. I’ve done photoshoots, walked on the runway, networked with other creatives, and even hosted my own fashion show!
All of these different experiences have opened doors for me in so many ways, and I’m grateful for this never-ending creative journey.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I struggled financially for a while. Even though I had the money to buy materials and travel to different events, I had a hard time stabilizing my personal finances. Taking care of my personal debt and car maintenance was difficult to balance alongside my desire to create passion projects.
The challenges never stopped me from being creative, but they did teach me that creating financial freedom is just as important as creating art. They’re both expressions of love that I owe to myself.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am the owner and founder of MotavationShop, a creative hub for all types of creatives: photographers, models, designers, artists, and more, but ultimately, a space where my own creativity can thrive.
I’m known for my modeling, creative artwork, and upcycled fashion, but I’m most proud of my fashion projects. My beaded jewelry, custom apparel, and thrift flips have really helped define what personal style means to me while inspiring others to express their own.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I was always curious about the world around me while also being artistically expressive. I danced, I sang, I traveled, I wrote poetry, I took photographs, I played the flute, and even did a bit of karate.
I wasn’t afraid to explore what my environment had to offer, and to this day, I am still all of those things. I’m constantly adding new forms of creative expression to my life and exploring what the world has to offer now that I’m older.
I’m continuing to learn, grow, and apply what life has taught me, allowing each experience to shape the person and artist I’m becoming.
