Meet Elizabeth Vaughn of MATTAWAN MECHANICAL SERVICES LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth Vaughn.

Elizabeth, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Mattawan Mechanical Services was founded in 1992 by Tom Vaughn with a simple goal: provide dependable, honest HVAC service while treating customers like neighbors.

What started as a small local business has grown over the years through hard work, word-of-mouth referrals, loyal customers, and an incredible team of employees. As the communities around us have grown, so have we.

Today, Mattawan Mechanical Services provides residential and commercial HVAC, new construction, refrigeration, water heaters, whole-house generators, gas piping, custom ductwork, and more throughout Southwest Michigan.

Even as we’ve grown, our focus has stayed the same: **take care of our customers, take care of our employees, and support the communities that have supported us.**

More than three decades later, we’re proud to still be locally owned and operated — and proud to be **Your Comfort Crew Since ’92.**

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Like most businesses, it hasn’t always been a smooth road. One of our biggest challenges has been **managing growth while continuing to provide the level of service our customers expect.** As we’ve grown, we’ve had to build the right team, improve our processes, and learn how to grow without losing the personal service that helped build Mattawan Mechanical Services.

HVAC is also a **weather-driven business**, and being in Michigan can be both a positive and a challenge. A stretch of extreme heat or cold can make us incredibly busy overnight, while mild weather can quickly slow things down. Learning to plan, staff, and manage a business around unpredictable Michigan weather has definitely kept us on our toes.

Through it all, we’ve learned to adapt, keep moving forward, and focus on taking care of our customers and our team.

We’ve been impressed with MATTAWAN MECHANICAL SERVICES LLC , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Mattawan Mechanical Services is a locally owned and operated heating and cooling company serving Southwest Michigan since 1992. We provide **residential and commercial HVAC services, new construction, refrigeration, custom ductwork, gas piping, water heaters, indoor air quality products, and whole-house generators.**

What sets MMS apart is our people. We have worked hard to build a team that is knowledgeable, dependable, and committed to doing things the right way. We continually invest in training so our employees can grow within the company and our customers receive knowledgeable, professional service.

We’re especially proud of the reputation and brand we’ve built in our local communities. For us, MMS is about much more than heating and cooling. **Supporting local businesses, sponsoring community events, giving back to local organizations, and helping families in the communities we serve are a big part of who we are.**

We also want our brand to feel approachable. HVAC can sometimes be confusing or intimidating, so we work hard to educate our customers, communicate clearly, and make the experience as easy as possible.

More than three decades after we started, we’re proud that people recognize Mattawan Mechanical Services as a company they can call when they need help — and a company that will be there for their community.

**Your Comfort Crew Since ’92.**

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
Over the next 5–10 years, we see the HVAC industry becoming much more focused on **energy efficiency, technology, indoor air quality, and smarter home comfort systems.** Equipment will continue to become more advanced, which means ongoing education and training for technicians will be more important than ever.

We also expect to see continued changes in refrigerants, efficiency standards, heat pump technology, and smart controls. Customers are becoming more educated and interested not only in heating and cooling their homes, but also in energy costs, air quality, humidity, and overall comfort.

One of the biggest challenges facing our industry will continue to be the **skilled trades workforce.** Finding, training, and retaining good people is incredibly important. At MMS, we believe strongly in developing employees from within and giving younger people opportunities to build long-term careers in the trades.

No matter how much technology changes, we believe one thing will remain the same: **customers will still want a knowledgeable, trustworthy person to answer the phone, show up when promised, and take care of their home or business.** That’s something we never want to lose.
