Today we’d like to introduce you to Jillian Nathan.
Jillian, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Jillian K. Nathan is a creative storyteller, cultural connector, consultant, and Poshmark reseller with a flair for style and substance. A proud graduate of the Fashion Institute of Technology, she pairs her love of fashion with an eye for detail, emerging trends, and timeless expression.
Her recent journey has been marked by profound loss and unexpected upheaval. After being abruptly laid off without severance, Jillian endured the deaths of four close friends, including her mentor, survived a fire in her rental townhome community, and was later forced to move in with family when raw sewage created a biohazard in her home.
After more than a year of unemployment, these experiences have deepened Jillian’s resilience, clarified her purpose, and inspired her to be more intentional about the opportunities she pursues. In an especially challenging economy, she has revived her consulting practice, BSociale Consultants, bringing renewed focus, creativity, and lived perspective to her work.
Jillian also channels her fashion expertise and passion for sustainability into reselling on Poshmark, where she gives thoughtfully selected pieces an opportunity to find new homes.
An avid traveler and dedicated food lover, Jillian finds inspiration everywhere, from bustling city streets to hidden culinary gems around the world. She believes fashion, travel, and food are powerful ways to experience, celebrate, and understand culture.
Above all, Jillian is a proud big sister to @arisautistictravels, championing inclusion, exploration, and living life boldly. Whether she is advising clients, curating fashion, planning her next adventure, or supporting meaningful causes, Jillian brings passion, authenticity, resilience, and heart to everything she does.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Over the past year, I have faced an abrupt layoff without severance, prolonged unemployment, the loss of four friends, a fire in my rental community, and displacement after raw sewage made my home unsafe. I am still working through the depression and grief that followed, while reimagining what home, stability, and success mean to me. Navigating the financial burden of being single in today’s economy has added another layer of difficulty, but I continue to rebuild with greater intention, resilience, and hope for what comes next.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Communications and content leader with 15+ years running editorial operations for nonprofits, healthcare-adjacent brands, and destination marketing organizations. Builds content strategy from the ground up, manages the people and workflows behind it, and writes copy that moves an audience.
Recent work centers on destination and tourism marketing: international partnership development, on-site event and travel coordination, and stakeholder engagement across Europe, the Caribbean, the Middle East, and Africa. Equally comfortable owning a project from first draft to final publish or refining a style guide. Fluent in French, and an early adopter of AI-assisted workflows, well ahead of most agencies.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What I like best about Birmingham is its strong sense of community, walkable downtown, locally owned shops and restaurants, and proximity to the culture and creativity of the greater Detroit area. What I like least is how expensive it has become. Rising housing and everyday living costs can make the city feel inaccessible, particularly for single people and those navigating career transitions. I would love to see greater economic diversity and more opportunities for everyone to feel that they belong here.
