Today we’d like to introduce you to Derrick Shorter.
Hi Derrick, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I began writing music at the age of 11. Once I turned 15 I wanted to start making beats so I can have my own music to rap over. Once I started doing that, my beats started to get good, so I began selling them. In 2020 I produced a song for DeJ Loaf called “Bubbly”. Since then I have produced for artists such as Neisha Neshae and more. Recently I have been focusing on my solo work, as in July 2026 I released my second mixtape called WORLDWIDE WES, which was entirely written, produced, mixed & arranged by me.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I believe that there is no such thing as a smooth road. For me, an artist that happens to be a producer as well, people have overlooked my writing ability so much and have been focused more on my production, which got frustrating after a while.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a self sufficient music artist. I record and produce all my own music. I love chopping samples in my MPC then adding drums to them in my DAW. What sets me apart from others is I can do everything in the studio and I’m a studio rat. I stay working on either beats or my own solo music. I hate being stagnant.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
My mother and father are the two people that deserve all of the credit for what I’ve done, what I’m doing, and what I’m about to do. They bought my first laptop, first mic, and first mixer when I was in high school, so they knew the vision.
