Hi RaNithia, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey into creating content around tenant rights happened pretty naturally. I’ve always had an interest in law and understanding rules and systems affect people every single day. After a while, I started to notice how much misinformation there was around renting and how many renters didn’t know what questions to ask, where to begin, or when to escalate a situation.
My content begin with short renters education that broke down common rental topics that were easy to understand and approachable. My videos started off as individuals, but eventually, I turned them into a series where I discuss topics like security deposits, lease terms, documentation, maintenance issues, rent increases, move-out expectations, and other situations that renters might experience.
As I continued to post videos, I realize that people weren’t just watching my videos, but they were asking questions, sharing their own experiences, and creating a discussion where other renters could learn from. This eventually led me to creating a series that focused on first-time renters.
Today, I am continuing my content journey while pursuing my education and my long-term goal of becoming an attorney. I don’t present myself as a lawyer or give legal advice to my viewers. My goal is to make general information easier to understand and encourage renters to learn their rights, read their leases, and research the laws that apply to where they live
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I would say it hasn’t been a completely smooth road. One of my biggest challenges is learning to stay consistent even when my results aren’t immediate. Social media can be unpredictable at times, one video could reach thousands of people while the next video that I put just as much work in barely gets any traction.
I have also learned to trust my own voice. Creating educational content comes with a different level of responsibilities because I want the information that I share to be helpful and accurate while also making it clear that laws and individual situations can vary. And with that, comes with me doing my own research, willing to correct myself when necessary, and understanding that not everyone online will agree with me.
Another challenge has been rebuilding. I’ve created content for years and I have experienced moments where I was very active and moments where I stepped away. Coming back and building an audience around something more purposeful taught me that previous success does a guarantee future success, and that you have to always show up and earn people’s attention again.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I think the way that I approach my content is what sets me apart from others.My content focuses primarily on tenant education and making information about renting easier for everyday people to understand. I create short-form videos that discuss topics such as leases, rent increases, move-in, and move out expectations, security deposits, and other common situations that renters may face.
I think the way that I approach my content is what sets me apart from others. I don’t want renters to watch my video and believe that landlords are always wrong or that tenants are always right. I try to explain the reasoning behind both sides while encouraging renters to understand their lease, document important information,research their state and local laws, and make informed decisions rather than relying solely on advice they may see online. I like to take complicated information, understand it myself, and then translate it into a way that seems more approachable and easy to follow.
I think of myself as a bridge between the information that is already out there and the people who may not know where to look for it or how to interpret it. I am not a lawyer and I’ve always been very clear about that. My goal isn’t to give legal advice, it’s to help renters become more informed, know questions to ask, and understanding when something may be worth looking into.
That’s probably what I’m most proud of. Something that has started off with me making educational content turned into a community where people share their experience, ask questions, and even help each other out in the comments.
Outside of my content creation, my professional background has also shaped how I approach my work. In an environment where accuracy, documentation, organization, and understanding detailed processes are very important. I think those skills carried over into the way I create educational content.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
A lot the credit goes to the community i’ve built through my content. I didn’t start my journey with a mentor or a team behind me. A lot has been me researching, experimenting, and figuring out what resonates with people. But the renters who watched my videos, share their experiences, ask questions, and even challenge some of the information I present has played a huge role in my platform. Their questions often inspire me with new topics and push me to keep learning so I can create better and more useful content. I am also extremely grateful for the people in my personal life that have encouraged me to continue creating even when I question whether I should.
