Hidden Gems: Meet Savita Monroe of Perfect Brow Spa and Wellness / Detroit Indian Women’s Association

Today we’d like to introduce you to Savita Monroe.

Savita, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
If someone had told me as a young girl of 12 arriving in the United States from India that one day I’d own a wellness business, teach yoga, lead a nonprofit, and inspire others through community service, I probably wouldn’t have believed them. A life of transformation and resilience and restart ing.
Like many immigrants, my family came to America searching for opportunity. Starting over wasn’t always easy, but it taught me resilience, adaptability, and the importance of hard work. Those lessons became the foundation for every chapter of my life. After graduating with my bachelor from Oakland university in Marketing.
I spent many years building a successful corporate career from being a buyer for Winkelman’s a department store to eventually became a Senior Vice President of Product Development for a watch company. I loved what I did and poured my heart into my work. Then, one day, everything changed. Management changed and I was unexpectedly let go.
My commute to work was flying every week to New York, I’ll never forget boarding the plane to fly home. As I looked out the window, I felt an overwhelming sense of emptiness. I was scared, uncertain, and questioning everything. After dedicating so many years to my career, I wondered, Who am I without this job? What do I do now? It felt like the rug had been pulled out from under me. One day I was a highly paid executive commuting to New York.
The next, I was flying home empty-handed.
Looking back, I now realize that what felt like my greatest setback became one of my greatest blessings. That unexpected ending forced me to rediscover myself and ask what truly brought me joy and purpose.
Instead of returning to the corporate world, I chose a completely different path. I became a licensed esthetician and co-own Perfect Brow Threading Spa and Wellness, where I help people feel confident and beautiful from the inside out. I also became a certified yoga instructor, sharing the gift of movement, mindfulness, and healthy aging with people of all ages, especially seniors.
My passion for serving others continued to grow, leading me to found the Detroit Indian Women’s Association (DIWA). What started as a vision has become a community of women dedicated to supporting one another while making a difference through volunteerism, health education, feeding the homeless, creating blankets for hospice patients, mentoring future leaders, and raising funds for local charities. Creating IFW (innovation Fashion and wellness platform as a fundraiser and being on Local TV channels fox2 and 4 for this platform!
Along the way, I also discovered opportunities I never expected—from representing women in pageantry to speaking at community events and encouraging others to embrace new beginnings at every stage of life.
If there’s one thing my journey has taught me, it’s that sometimes life’s biggest disappointments are actually redirections. Losing the career I thought defined me opened doors I never knew existed. Today, I don’t measure success by my title. I measure it by the lives I’ve touched, the community we’ve built, and the reminder that it’s never too late to reinvent yourself, follow your purpose, and help others do the same.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Like many people, I’ve had moments where I questioned everything.
I immigrated to the United States from India when I was 12 years old. Starting over in a new country meant learning a new culture, finding my place, and working hard to create opportunities. Those early experiences taught me resilience and perseverance.
After college, I built a successful corporate career and eventually became a Senior Vice President. I thought I had my future figured out. Then one day, I was unexpectedly let go. I still remember sitting on the flight home feeling completely empty, scared, and wondering, “Who am I now, and what’s next?” It was one of the lowest moments of my life.
Looking back, that setback became one of the greatest gifts. It forced me to reinvent myself instead of defining my worth by a job title. I pursued my passion for wellness, became a licensed esthetician and yoga instructor, co-founded Perfect Brow Spa & Wellness, and later founded the Detroit Indian Women’s Association to create opportunities for women to connect, grow, and give back to the community.
Of course, entrepreneurship has brought its own challenges, building a business, navigating uncertainty, balancing family, nonprofit work, and community leadership. There have been many long days and difficult decisions.
But every obstacle taught me something valuable. Today, I don’t see challenges as roadblocks, I see them as opportunities to grow. If my journey has taught me anything, it’s that sometimes the biggest setbacks are actually preparing you for a life with even greater purpose.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was a very shy and quiet child, but I was also incredibly active. I loved riding my bike everywhere, and after my family immigrated to the United States, I even rode my bike to my tutoring sessions. Looking back, those rides taught me independence and perseverance.
That love of being active has stayed with me throughout my life. As an adult, I’ve completed several half marathons and continue to make fitness and wellness an important part of my lifestyle.
I was never particularly interested in beauty growing up, although I always enjoyed dressing up and expressing myself through fashion. More than anything, I’ve always been a good listener. I’m naturally quiet, observant, and someone who enjoys understanding others before speaking. Those qualities have shaped both my personal relationships and the way I connect with people today.
