Today we’d like to introduce you to Damon Walker.
Hi damon, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I got started over 25 years ago. I was working at Chrysler and although it was a great paying job, I was trying to figure out how to get out. My mom invited me to go to a screen printing class with her. At the class I was helping all the people with the digital part of their prints, a lot of them didn’t know how to use a computer. So I took what I learned at the class and took it up a notch. I started printing digital prints for t-shirts and pressing them on the shirts. I became the t-shirt guy in the plant and then people was asking me to print family reunions tees for them and Cre8tive Designz LLC was born. Everyday someone wanted a custom shirt. In 2008 I retired from Chrysler at the age of 36 and went full time with Cre8tive Designz. I opened a shop on 10 mile and Schoenherr. I kept the shop open for 3 years and improved the business by purchasing new equipment and having plenty of clients. After 3 year we moved back into our basement of our home as prices rise in the economy, we were able to keep our prices down, because of no overhead. Today we are still printing for families, ministries and individuals. We no longer have our website because the influx of orders we couldn’t handle anymore. We want to publicly thank all those whose supported us over the years. We are still printing but have to call us 313-779-6482 Our prices and quality is second to none.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
not a smooth road, some challenges were people doubting you, not trusting your or your business. Not haveing the funds to purchase new equipment and finding a location (affordable)
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
What has worked well for me is being honest and upfront with people. there’s nothin like clarity
