Life & Work with John Van Dyke of Chicago

Today we’d like to introduce you to John Van Dyke.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’m an author. I’ve been in love with the written word since childhood. I finished my dissertation in 2010 and then began writing for publications across the spectrum. My first book, The Lindbergh Kidnapping and The Origin of the Viral Conspiracy Theory, was the result of an article that I wrote for Skeptic magazine.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have been struggles. I’m a print journalist, and people don’t buy as many books as they used to before the Information Age.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m also a songwriter and performing musician. I founded a group called The Van Dyke Revue with my father, John, in 1999. We have performed all over the country for thousands of audiences.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Rigor. Just keeping at it and not giving up.
