Check Out Theresa Stone’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Theresa Stone.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve been a dancer for my entire life. Since I was 2 years old, I’ve been in a life long relationship with dance. Growing up as a competitive dancer in Long Island, I made my way into the professional spectrum at 18, while also juggling college at the same time. During my four years at St John’s University, I was able to achieve my bachelors degree in Public Relations while maintaining a bicoastal lifestyle starting to work professionally. My first year out of college, I booked my first big tour, with the one and only Lady Gaga. I invested over 10 years of my time and body to my craft, and now I continue to stay connected through the means of creation and choreography. I’ve navigated my journey more into the realm of direction and I’m sharing my art with the world in as many ways as I can. In doing so, I’ve become internationally acknowledged for my work, including being a recipient of a Cannes Film Award.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Most of my struggles were rooted in generational norms and structures. My parents were traditional in the sense of only knowing one path… you go to college, get a degree, you devote your life to working in that realm. So showing my parents that there could be another way of sustaining a living, happily, through my craft and making it my profession was the biggest struggle of my journey. It took a lot of proving, compromising and persistence but I’m happy to say at this point in my life they are fully understanding and supportive of my choice.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’ve always been a creator at heart. Since I was extremely young I always wanted to create and share my creations with others. It only made sense I ended up here. I specialize in movement through the means of storytelling. Taking a viewer on a ride and making them truly feel something is always my biggest inspiration and motivator. And this is honestly what I feel the most proud of… having the capacity to make people FEEL things. What a beautiful opportunity and gift that is. I stand alone in this regard because I feel in a time where social media has really watered down attention spans and drive to commit, I hold firm in sharing pieces that are thorough, and thought through… regardless of a trend or algorithm.
