Today we’d like to introduce you to Dena Halim.
Hi Dena, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My journey with Luxury Esthetics Studio began in 2021 with a vision, determination, and a small space inside my spare bedroom. At the time, I didn’t have a large salon, a huge clientele, or all of the resources I have today. What I did have was a passion for the beauty industry and a desire to build something of my own.
I started by providing lash services from home and slowly began building my clientele, perfecting my craft, and learning what it truly meant to run a business. As my business grew, I took the next step and moved into my first small salon suite in Warren, Michigan. From there, my journey included several transitions—working from a shared suite, eventually moving into my own space in Center Line, and continuing to grow even when unexpected circumstances forced me to relocate.
Instead of allowing those challenges to discourage me, I used them as motivation. I eventually relocated Luxury Esthetics Studio to Southfield, Michigan, which became one of the most important chapters in my journey.
What started as me simply renting a salon suite eventually grew into something much bigger. Within about a year of moving to Southfield, I was able to purchase all nine salon suites in the location, transitioning from being a suite renter to becoming the owner of the entire suite business. That moment represented so much more than a business accomplishment for me—it showed me how far I had come from the young woman who started taking clients in her spare bedroom.
Today, Luxury Esthetics Studio has grown beyond providing beauty services. I offer lash extensions and esthetic services, provide professional beauty products, educate aspiring lash artists through hands-on training, and create opportunities for other beauty professionals to operate their own businesses within my salon suites.
Every stage of my journey has taught me something about resilience, patience, growth, and believing in my own vision. There were times when I had to start over, change direction, and figure things out as I went. Those experiences helped shape both the business owner and the woman I am today.
As I celebrate five years in business, I’m incredibly proud of what Luxury Esthetics Studio has become, but I also feel like this is only the beginning. My goal is to continue expanding my brand, educating and inspiring other women in the beauty industry, and creating opportunities for entrepreneurs who have dreams of building something of their own.
I started with a spare bedroom and a vision. Five years later, I own the space that I once would have dreamed of simply working in—and I’m excited to see where the next chapter takes me.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The journey definitely hasn’t always been a smooth one. Building Luxury Esthetics Studio from the ground up has required a lot of sacrifice, patience, and resilience. I started my business in a spare bedroom and eventually worked my way into salon suites, but each stage came with its own challenges.
One of the biggest obstacles was having to unexpectedly relocate my business due to circumstances outside of my control. At the time, it felt like a major setback, but it ultimately pushed me toward a bigger opportunity. I relocated to Southfield, and within a year, I went from renting my own suite to purchasing and managing all nine suites in the building.
I’ve also had to learn many aspects of business through experience—from managing finances and building clientele to marketing, leadership, and becoming a business owner while still providing services to my clients. There were moments of uncertainty and times when things didn’t go according to plan, but every challenge taught me something that helped me grow.
My journey has taught me that sometimes what feels like a setback is actually redirection. I’m proud that I continued to believe in my vision, remained consistent, and turned obstacles into opportunities to create something much bigger than what I originally imagined.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am the owner and founder of Luxury Esthetics Studio, a beauty and esthetics business I started in 2021. I specialize in lash extensions and esthetic services, but over the years my work has grown into so much more than providing beauty services. I have expanded into education, retail products, mentorship, and creating opportunities for other beauty professionals.
My journey started small, working out of a spare bedroom and building my clientele one appointment at a time. From there, I moved into my first salon suite and continued growing through several stages and locations. Today, I am proud to own and operate a location with nine salon suites, providing spaces where other beauty professionals can build businesses of their own.
As an artist, I am known for being detail-oriented and taking pride in creating work that enhances each client’s natural beauty while giving them a luxury experience. I also offer lash education and training, allowing me to share the knowledge and experience I have gained throughout my career with aspiring beauty professionals.
What I am most proud of is the growth behind Luxury Esthetics Studio. I didn’t start with a large team, investors, or a perfect blueprint. I started with a passion for the beauty industry, remained consistent, learned through every stage of business, and continued expanding my vision.
What sets me apart is that I look at beauty as both an art and a business. My goal is not only to make my clients feel beautiful, but also to create a brand that represents professionalism, education, entrepreneurship, and opportunity. Seeing something that once operated from a spare bedroom grow into a business that now provides space for other entrepreneurs is one of my greatest accomplishments, and I am excited to continue building from here.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Luck has played an interesting role in my journey, but I believe preparation, resilience, and faith have played an even bigger one. There have been moments when the right opportunity came at the right time, and I’m grateful for those moments. At the same time, some of what initially felt like bad luck ended up pushing me toward greater opportunities.
Having to make unexpected changes in my business, facing setbacks, and navigating uncertainty forced me to grow, adapt, and think bigger. I’ve learned that you can’t control everything that happens to you, but you can control what you do with it. Some of my biggest accomplishments came after situations that didn’t go according to plan.
So while I believe luck can open a door, I believe consistency, hard work, and being willing to keep going are what ultimately determine how far you walk through it.
