Today we’d like to introduce you to Dom Davis.
Hi Dom, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
It all started when I was a kid and would go to the events my Dad was DJing. His name was Mackaroni, so everyone would call me LiL Mack, so it just stuck. Growing up, I was around a lot of music. My family had a band that my uncles were a part of, so it was like life was just one big musical and party growing up.
As I got older, I started to dance. Dancing became my first love. Breakdancing all over my city is how I got known. There wasn’t a party you could go to without seeing my friends dancing and me. Hip Hop was big back then, so of course I had to take my shot and try out my rhymes. I was pretty good and was entertaining. It was my favorite thing to do when I was in my teens. I signed with a label, but the contract stipulated that they would own my masters, so I decided to put my musical talent away and focus on DJing.
Fast forward to today, and I am very successful. I have a residency, travel, play festivals, and make my own music for people to dance to.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It hasn’t been very easy for me. When you believe in yourself and your abilities so much that you can’t see yourself doing anything else the road starts out rough. Taking all of your money and investing in yourself can be scary. I never had fianancial backers to help me out it has only been myself investing my money into myself. No one tells you how hard it is to decide to upgrade your equipment and go without lifes necessities for a while till you start seeing a profit. No one tells you that if you are sick you still have to show up for yourself. There in no one to fill in for you when a tragic accident happens. At one of the heights of my career I became very ill with pneumonia. I had it 16 times 8 of which I became septic and almost died. I was on oxygen for years until one day I decided I was going to heal myself. I got better for a couple months and then I got ischemic colitis. My intestines died on me and I had to have surgery. That set me back another 5 years of healing. Needless to say I got better eventually and ended up on the path I am on now.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in high-energy DJ Performances, music production, rapping/MCing, and event promotion as MC LiL Mack. I’m known for blending Hip Hop, Trap, EDM, Dubstep, EDM, house, tech-house, and Jersey Club into lively, crowd-connecting sets. I produce and perform original tracks; I bring my own vocals and raps, handle the full spectrum of entertainment work–club and private gigs, corporate events, festival sets, and promotion (flyers, branding, bookings). People know me as the energetic entertainer and promoter who builds the vibe both on the decks and behind the scenes, while also teaching DJ skills and developing the MC LiL Mack brand across platforms.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I am a jack-of-all-trades in my business. I market and brand myself; my logo is my design I do this for the love of music and I will never give up chasing my dreams.
