Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephany Ross.
Hi Stephany, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
So, it all started due to a mental health crisis! LOL
True Royal Universe originally started as a way to heal from the inside out. After going through a divorce, loosing close family, and needing to find my way out of the rock I was under, I found myself yearning for more. Being drawn to the world of skincare after my failed attempts at a singing career, a T-shirt business, and so much more. I fell in love with the science behind creating a product that would help my mental and physical health thrive and quickly learned how it impacted others. Seeing how so many were looking for safe plant-based products that when they read the ingredients list, they could actually understand what they were reading. I quickly felt the chill of my heart fade as I saw the joy and curiosity that a shea butter candle brought to those in my community, or when a child lit up when she made her own body oil or body butter for the first time. It was then I understood this was bigger than me!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
OMG, the road is never Smooth!
If you ever come across a path that is easy, question it. Our paths are meant to be challenging. That’s how we learn. Some of the major obstacles I’ve faced being a plus size woman entrepreneur is getting people on board for the ride. I had to learn chemistry, business 101, and how to network with the right people. Reading a room or body language incorrectly would make or break my future. Especially in an industry that can be somewhat vain. I had to build trust, gain knowledge, and learn humility. People will think, say, and do what they want to. It’s completely up to you to process the information you’re receiving and act accordingly. At the end of the day hearing a million “no”s, or seeing people question my abilities, developed the skills I have today to careless about the perception of the naysayers, and more about showing the work. This allowed genuine connections to form with the people meant to walk into my life. So, educate yourself, and become the person you’re trying to portray. The authenticity will speak for itself.

So, T.R.U. is a business that is creative. My company specializes in unique and versatile plant-based skincare. True Royal Universe is an outlet for people to heal, learn, and grow through natural skincare products, while having the option to create their own. We travel to different road shows teaching about skincare versatility while providing massage candle classes, body oil classes, and a few other options. Many know us for our scented massage candles and fast absorbing body butters that leave the skin feeling silky smooth and well moisturized without a greasy or waxy feeling.
One of my proudest moments is being self-sustaining and giving back to the community that cultivate my beginning. We have not only avoided borrowing from major lenders the past five years but also have been able to give back to community resource centers like, “The Care House of Okland County” Which provides protection and assistance to children and adults that have experienced domestic violence. Recently, we provided a free workshop for the youth in efforts to build confidence and comfort through Chemistry. Just some of the things that set True Royal Universe apart from similar businesses within the Metro Detroit area.
How do you think about luck?
I personally believe luck is a construct to make sense of our lives. I like to think our lives are predestined for greatness, as long as we walk accordingly, we will always reach the needed result at the end. That does not mean the outcome will always be what we expect, but that the purpose of our lives will always be fulfilled. For me personally, my faith has been the most important part of my journey. In many ways I truly believe I was meant to walk into the rooms I did, to meet the people that helped develop my life.
During the pandemic I stumbled upon a company and tried to place a wholesale order for T-shirts. At the time I was selling graphic shirts. They never got back to me, but years later I became a major player within the organization. This is what I call Gods design. I had no idea that the company that never called me back for my wholesale order would be the organization I’d start working for years down the road, that would help get my business off the ground. They helped grown and develop my skills as a professional. Providing hands on knowledge that you can’t get in school. If I had not experienced the loss of my marriage and so-called “friend/family” at the time, I would not have pushed so hard to find a new direction. Which is how I started working for them.
