Today we’d like to introduce you to Troy Moss.
Hi Troy , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
So I started my media career by attending a film award show in Vegas. I decided I enjoyed film and applied to Full Sail University and graduated with my degree in Digital Cinematography in November 2024. While in school I spent time doing videos for the anime community and local businesses in the Detroit metro. I’ve built a small reputation and love working in these communities. I managed to build enough reputation to start doing photography this year as well. It’s something about being able to tell a meaningful story with the click of a button that makes me excited!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
This road has not been smooth. I did my entire degree online so it was basically watching someone talk about the details and rules of film and then having to replicate it to my own vision. Starting from scratch was definitely hard but it molded me. It’s also hard finding clients when starting off because at times it feels as if the world is against you. The hardest struggle has been remaining patient through out my career. As an artist we all want to be recognized and have our work celebrated but it takes time to get there. Sometimes enjoying the journey is hard when you already envision where you want to end up. I’ve heard thousands of people say no but when they say yes it makes it all worth while.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I spent the last 5 years doing promo videos for Glotaku and spent some time doing commercial campaigns for Born Otaku. That has led to me doing ever more work for anime conventions such as Isshocon, MI Anime, and now even Ozokucon. I’ve become known as “The Detroit Wizard” in the anime community. I’m proud of that fact that people look at me for who I am because who I am reflects directly into my work. I think in this life the smallest thing tells a story and I like to help people realize that about themselves and or the service they provide. I look for stories and find clients that way. It’s tedious but rewarding to me. I’m proud of the relationships I’ve built and the community I’ve grown into.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
I’d like everyone to know I’ve stepped away from being creative so many times on this journey and yet God brings me right back to this field. It’s not that I just simply enjoy it but being creative is who I am. I can’t deny who I am just because it gets hard because if I give up on it then I give up on me. Something I tell everyone is “As long as you’re trying you never fail. You only fail once you quit.”. This is my view on life and my career. What meant for you will always find you. I’m thankful for God pushing me this far.
