Today we’d like to introduce you to Angelea Torralva.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Last January my friends and I were doing “dry January” and I started to make myself really delicious and functional mocktails because I’ve always had a huge passion and interest in holistic health. I also have a background in the service industry and one of my favorite past jobs was a small vegetarian restaurant and juice bar called Gaia cafe. (Back when it was still on diamond and cherry)
That’s where my juicing journey started about 12 years ago.
So when I was taking a break from alcohol and making my own healthy drinks I decided that I should really go for this because no one else is really doing it like I am. I also have a huge love and passion for functional mushrooms, and I incorporate them in my mocktails and teas,
With mushroom coffees on the rise as well as sobriety, this has been a really successful and fun experience so far.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I’ve been a business a little over a year and so far it’s been decently smooth. I think the biggest struggle last year was not having the right vehicle to transport all of my stuff. I had gotten a small open trailer and that was rough. Haha!
But since then I’ve been able to purchase a large cargo work van for this summer season and it has been a huge game changer.
This is definitely a grassroots business. I’ve funded my entire business myself with credit cards and the small amount of savings I’ve had.
It’s still a learning process, I’ve had a lot of consistency this year being at the Fulton street market, since then I have realized how much the work load is of prep and setting up my pop up set up and tearing down. This business is ran completely by me so the workload has been a lot, but here and there I have some help. I’m currently figuring out possibly hiring someone to help out more frequently.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
New Moon Mocktails is a functional juice and tea bar using functional mushrooms and no refined sugar. I use agave in a few of my juices, I have one juice without any extra sugar at all. All of my tea lattes are sweetened only with maple syrup. I also make the cashew milk myself for all of the tea lattes.
This business gives a delicious functional and nutritious alternative to anyone who is sober or sober curious when in social settings. It’s awesome to be known for serving house made, healthy and functional beverages.
What sets me apart is the fact that I don’t use refined sugar, I offer functional mushroom adaptogens, and almost everything is house made. I take a lot of pride in everything I create. I want readers to know how incredible functional mushrooms are, they really are life changing.
What’s next?
My plans for the future are a little up in the air, I used to be very against having a store front and only interested in working towards a food truck type of set up, but SO many people ask me all the time if I have a store front, so the idea is more on the table. But I know I’d like to work towards a food truck, as well as get my mocktails in local bars and businesses that I personally love and enjoy.
