Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex George.
Hi Alex, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve never fit inside one box, and for a long time I thought that meant something was wrong with me.
By day, I worked in corporate technology and procurement. By night, and honestly most weekends, I was somewhere else entirely: in my garage, hot, half-watching my kids in the backyard, hands in bins of ribbon and moss and candle wax, playing with color and texture until something felt right. That’s not a metaphor. That’s genuinely how most of what became Opal Gold Events got built.
For years I treated the practical version of me and the creative version of me like two different people, because I didn’t think they were allowed to share space. Eventually I stopped separating them. Opal Gold Events came out of that: a creative event company built around designing immersive experiences that actually bring people together. It grew naturally into Siren Stems, my floral brand, and Body by Glow Goddess, a body care line built around ritual and feminine luxury.
The thread through everything is the same: storytelling, texture, color, community, and creating environments people feel something in. That’s true whether I’m building a wedding tablescape at midnight with a hot glue gun in one hand, or reading tarot cards on my coffee table with a candle lit and a rubber duck watching.
I’m still building all of it while raising my two daughters and working full-time in tech, still figuring out how much I actually want to take on next versus what I’ve got the bandwidth for right now. Mostly, this chapter has been about giving myself permission to let every part of that be visible at once, instead of only showing the polished piece.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not at all. It’s been anything but smooth.
I’m still relatively early with all of these brands, and I’m doing this on top of a full-time job, which means I haven’t gotten to do half of what I actually want to yet. That gap between where I am and where I can see this going is its own struggle.
The bigger one is perfectionism, specifically the kind that shows up right before I let people in. I’ll sit with something in private for months and then hesitate the moment it’s time to actually show it to anyone. This interview is a live example. I’ve caught myself overthinking nearly every sentence, because putting Opal Gold, Siren Stems, and Glow Goddess out into the world like this feels genuinely vulnerable. They’re not just businesses. They’re pieces of me, and there’s a real fear in wondering how people will receive that once it’s out there for anyone to react to.
Being deeply spiritual, and I’ve read tarot for a long time, not as a costume, genuinely as part of how I process things, I’ve had to learn to surrender a little. Not everything needs to be mapped out before I move. Some of the best opportunities in my life showed up in ways I never planned for, and I’ve had to accept that my timeline was never going to look like anyone else’s.
Building these businesses taught me to trust my intuition and get comfortable being unfinished in public, which is still very much a work in progress. I think the struggle is the point. There’s no single right way to build a life or a business. You mostly find out what the path was after you’ve already walked part of it.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Opal Gold Events is a creative event production company. I design and produce immersive experiences, weddings, gatherings, brand and community events, for people who want something that feels personal, not templated. That means creative direction, installations, prop styling, florals, and the very unglamorous logistics of making it all come together, usually with a hot glue gun in one hand and a half-finished centerpiece in the other.
What I’m most proud of is that I actually love the mess of making something. Most of what I create starts as a pile of moss, candles, ribbon, and flowers spread across a folding table in my garage, and I don’t think that process needs to be hidden to look legitimate. What sets me apart is that I design for how something feels to stand inside, not how it photographs first.
That same instinct grew into two other brands. Siren Stems is my floral line, ethereal, feminine, a little alluring, for weddings, installations, and bouquet bars, where the flowers are as much about mood and story as the arrangement itself. Body by Glow Goddess is a body care line built around self-care ritual and feminine luxury: playful, nostalgic, a little sexy, the kind of small indulgence that’s just for you.
Whether I’m producing an event, arranging flowers, or building a product, I’m asking the same question: how do I want someone to feel? That’s the actual thread connecting everything, not just three separate businesses under one name.
I’m also starting to explore how AI and technology can support small business owners and creative founders, not to replace the creative work, but to take the repetitive parts off their plate. I’ve been thinking about putting together a small intro workshop on the basics, mostly to see if people actually want that before I build anything more formal.
What matters most to you?
As an Aquarius, freedom and community are what matter most to me, and I don’t think that’s a coincidence. It’s basically my whole personality on paper.
Freedom, to me, is following my curiosity, creating without asking permission, changing direction when something stops feeling right, and building a life with room left in it for wonder. I’ve read tarot for a long time for the same reason, not to predict anything, but because it’s a way of staying curious about my own life instead of just running it on autopilot.
Freedom means more when it’s shared, though. Adulthood gets so practical and scheduled that we forget magic and whimsy are still available to us, not as an escape from real life, but as a way of actually experiencing it. Community is what makes room for that. It gives people permission to show up, try something, make a mess, and feel like part of something bigger than themselves.
That belief is shaping what’s next for Opal Gold. I’ve been imagining what it would look like to give the brand a physical home, a shared creative space where people could gather, make things, learn from each other, and bring ideas to life together.
Freedom and community aren’t separate values to me. A space like that would be both at once. If that idea means anything to you too, I’d genuinely love to hear about it.
