Today we’d like to introduce you to Zeshawn Khan.
Hi Zeshawn, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Hello! My name is Zeshawn, and I’m an avid board gamer, fantasy reader, and content creator. I’ve been playing board games and reading for as long as I can remember, and for the past few years I’ve had the privilege of sharing those passions with people online through BoardandShield.
What started as a hobby quickly grew into something much bigger. I realized I didn’t just enjoy playing games or reading great books but genuinely loved introducing other people to them. There’s something incredibly rewarding about helping someone find the perfect board game for their family or hearing that they couldn’t put down a book I recommended.
Today, my goal is simple: make these hobbies feel welcoming and exciting for everyone. Whether I’m yapping about my new solo board game obsession, recommending a fantasy series, or just geeking out about the latest board game release, I hope my enthusiasm encourages someone to discover a game or book they’ll remember for years to come.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Being a content creator in two very opinion-driven hobbies definitely comes with its challenges. Board games and books are incredibly personal experiences, and people naturally feel passionate about the things they love. Sometimes sharing an opinion that differs from someone else’s favorite game or book can bring strong reactions, and learning how to navigate that has been part of the journey.
At the end of the day, though, that’s also what makes these hobbies so special. There is no single “right” game to play or book to read! I fully believe there’s something out there for everyone. I’ve learned to focus less on whether everyone agrees with my opinions and more on helping people discover what they personally enjoy. The goal has never been to convince everyone to love the same things I do; it’s to share my enthusiasm and help others find their next favorite game or story.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am content creator behind BoardandShield, where I make videos about modern board games and (mostly fantasy) books. My goal has always been to make these hobbies feel more approachable! Whether I’m recommending a gateway game for someone’s next game, breaking down a hyped game release, or convincing someone to finally pick up a my favorite fantasy novel, I want people to leave my content excited to try something new.
Over time I’ve become known for honest recommendations, energetic reviews, and content that feels like you’re talking with a friend who’s a little too excited about board games and books. I don’t believe every game is for everyone, so I try to explain who a game is actually for rather than just saying everything is amazing, even if it does seem like I enjoy everything!
The thing I’m most proud as a content creator of isn’t a follower count or a viral video; it’s the messages I receive from people telling me they found a new favorite game because of one of my recommendations, or that they finally picked up a fantasy series I’d been talking about and couldn’t put it down. Knowing I’ve helped someone discover a hobby they’ll enjoy for years is incredibly rewarding.
What sets me apart is the relationship I have with my community. I genuinely try to respond to every DM, comment, and message I receive because I don’t want the conversation to stop when the video ends. I talk to people the same way I would if we were sitting across the table playing a game together! Whether it’s sharing my real opinions, offering energetic recommendations, or getting genuinely excited about the things I love. That authenticity is something I’ve always tried to protect as my audience has grown.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
I grew up playing board games with my family, so some of my favorite childhood memories are around the game table. I can still vividly remember staying up way too late with my cousins, laughing, joking, and getting way too invested in a four-hour game of Monopoly that somehow stretched until 2 a.m. Looking back, I don’t remember who won, but that was never what it was all about. I remember the conversations, the laughter, and the time we spent together. Those nights are a big part of why I love board games today and why I’m so passionate about sharing this hobby with others.
