Conversations with Armonie Barber

Today we’d like to introduce you to Armonie Barber.

Hi Armonie, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve always loved food, traveling, and trying new restaurants and cuisines. During COVID, I decided to spend more time in the kitchen and really work on my cooking skills. I started with simple pasta dishes, and as my confidence grew, I challenged myself with seafood, premium steaks, and more complex recipes.

The more I cooked, the more I realized how much I truly enjoyed it. What inspires me the most is seeing people’s reactions when they taste my food. Hearing that a meal reminds someone of home or brings them comfort and gratitude is incredibly rewarding. Those moments motivate me to keep learning, creating, and sharing my passion.

Today, I don’t just see cooking as preparing a meal—I see it as telling a story. Every dish is made with care, creativity, and the hope that it brings people together and creates lasting memories.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Like many small business owners, I’ve faced challenges that required me to start small, make sacrifices, and grow step by step instead of having everything I envisioned from the beginning. There were times I had to scale back, work with what I had, and trust the process.

Those challenges have taught me patience, consistency, and the importance of celebrating every milestone. No matter how small the progress may seem, it’s always rewarding to look back and see how far you’ve come, whether it’s after one day, one month, or one year. Every step forward is proof that hard work and perseverance are worth it, and it motivates me to continue building the business I envision for the future.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a self-taught home chef and creative who specializes in creating comforting, flavorful meals that bring people together. I enjoy preparing a wide variety of dishes, from homemade pastas to fresh seafood and premium steaks. Every meal I create is made with attention to detail and a passion for giving people an experience they will remember.

What I’m most proud of is the joy my food brings to others. There is nothing more rewarding than hearing someone say a meal reminded them of home or became a special memory shared with family and friends. Those moments inspire me to continue learning, growing, and pushing myself creatively.

What sets me apart is that I don’t just cook food, I tell a story through every dish. I believe food has the power to create comfort, connection, and lasting memories. My goal is to make every person who tastes my food feel welcomed, appreciated, and cared for. As my business continues to grow, I look forward to expanding my menu, exploring new cuisines, and sharing my passion with even more people.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I believe luck can open a door, but it’s hard work, consistency, and perseverance that keep it open. Starting my business took patience, and there were times when I questioned whether I was making the right decisions. Every challenge became an opportunity to learn and improve.

I’ve been fortunate to have people believe in my food and recommend me to others, but I know those opportunities came because I continued showing up and giving my best. I don’t rely on luck alone. I rely on passion, dedication, and faith that every step I take is preparing me for something greater. I believe success comes from staying committed, even when progress feels slow, and trusting that the work you put in today will pay off in the future.
