Today we’d like to introduce you to Monet Mclendon.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My journey has been one of purpose, perseverance, and service. I grew up understanding that our environment can shape us, but it does not have to define us. Witnessing the effects of trauma, violence, grief, and systemic challenges within my own community inspired me to pursue a career in social work with the hope of becoming the person I wish more people had access to during difficult seasons of life.
Over the past 15 years, I’ve dedicated my career to serving individuals and families across hospice care, long-term care, mental health, and community outreach. Along the way, I earned my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Social Work, recently became a Licensed Clinical Master Social Worker (LCMSW), and founded Insightful Thoughts Counseling to provide a safe space where healing, education, and empowerment come together.
Beyond traditional therapy, I believe healing should be accessible and visible within the community. That belief has led me to create initiatives like Therapy Walks with Monet McLendon, develop community mental health events, speak publicly about grief, trauma, and emotional wellness, and collaborate with organizations that are committed to breaking the stigma surrounding mental health.
Today, my mission extends beyond counseling sessions. I am building a brand centered on helping people heal, empowering communities through education, and creating innovative resources that make mental health support more approachable. Whether I’m working as a hospice social worker, leading community initiatives, writing my first book, or speaking on a stage, my goal remains the same: to remind people that healing is possible, that their story matters, and that pain does not have to have the final say.
I often say that my greatest accomplishment isn’t simply becoming a therapist—it’s becoming a bridge between hope and healing for the communities I serve. And I believe this is only the beginning.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely has not been a smooth road, but every challenge has strengthened my purpose. One of my greatest obstacles was balancing multiple roles while pursuing my clinical licensure. I was working full-time in hospice, serving as a Clinical Director, building my private practice, creating community mental health initiatives, and still finding time to study for one of the most challenging exams of my career.
At the same time, I was balancing being a wife and a mother. One of the hardest lessons I’ve learned is that sometimes it feels like excelling in one area of life can unintentionally pull from another. There were seasons when I questioned whether I was giving enough to my family because I was so committed to my professional goals, and other moments when family responsibilities required me to pause or delay my own ambitions. Learning to navigate those competing demands while releasing the pressure to be perfect has been one of my greatest personal growth experiences.
I also didn’t pass the licensing exam on my first attempt, which was discouraging. Instead of allowing that setback to define me, I reevaluated my study approach, remained disciplined, and ultimately earned my clinical license.
Beyond my professional journey, I’ve experienced personal loss, grief, and life transitions that deepened my understanding of healing. Those experiences have shaped the therapist, advocate, and leader I am today. They remind me that resilience isn’t about avoiding hardship, it’s about continuing to move forward with purpose despite it.
Today, those challenges fuel my passion for creating safe spaces where people feel seen, heard, and empowered. Whether through therapy, community events, public speaking, or education, my goal is to help others recognize that healing is possible and that their circumstances do not have to determine their future. My journey has taught me that success isn’t about doing everything perfectly it’s about remaining faithful to your purpose while embracing growth in every role you’re called to serve.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?

Our mission is simple: to help individuals discover clarity, embrace healing, and live with purpose—one insightful thought at a time.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
If there’s one thing I hope readers take away from my story, it’s that healing is possible, even when life has been difficult. I am a firm believer that our circumstances do not have to determine our future. As a therapist, licensed clinical social worker, wife, mother, entrepreneur, and community advocate, I’ve learned that success isn’t about having a perfectly balanced life—it’s about being intentional, giving yourself grace, and continuing to move forward even when the journey feels overwhelming.
There have been seasons where excelling in one area of my life seemed to pull from another. Balancing my career, marriage, motherhood, personal growth, and my calling to serve others has required sacrifice, resilience, and faith. I’ve learned that balance isn’t about doing everything perfectly every day; it’s about recognizing what needs you most in each season while extending yourself compassion along the way.
My mission extends far beyond the therapy room. Through Insightful Thoughts Counseling, Therapy Walks with Monet McLendon, my upcoming book Ghetto with a Therapeutic Mindset, and future community initiatives, I hope to make mental health conversations more accessible, reduce stigma, and empower individuals to choose healing over hopelessness.
If my story inspires even one person to ask for help, believe in themselves again, or realize that their pain can become purpose, then every obstacle I’ve faced has been worthwhile. Healing begins with one courageous step, and no one has to walk that journey alone.
