Meet Nina Michelle of Michigan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nina Michelle.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started writing years ago, as a means of another creative outlet (I also paint/draw and tattoo.) After moving back from California in 2017, I would work on my first book draft here and there, but didn’t actually complete it until the end of 2018. That finished draft I actually sat on for a few years before publishing my first book in 2024. I’m an avid reader. I’ve been reading since about four or five years old. That is one thing I do every single day no questions asked- rain or shine. Due to my love for reading. I also developed a love for writing. And after publishing my first novel I knew I wanted to take it even further. As of today, I now have seven published books and currently working on my eighth and ninth book, that will be releasing before the end of the year.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As a self published author, there have been plenty of ups and downs. Some of the struggles have been just the initial marketing aspect and reaching the right target audience, learning the different avenues of marketing via social media as well as word-of-mouth. But outside of that, the rewards have been very generous. I’ve made a lot of new friends within the book community. I’ve met a lot of people who absolutely adore my books and my characters- and am constantly getting a lot of new & valuable information/advice from authors who have been at this for some time.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am an author, and I write black romance (contemporary and urban fiction.)
My stories have a softness, but of bit of the Detroit grit and hustle.
I’m most proud of getting that first book out and published; that was the biggest hurdle to me- just getting around the nerves and taking a leap of faith.
What sets me apart from others is how I write, the complexity of my characters, my creative knack, and how my romance stories are “soft with a little chaos.” And no matter how hard it may get, how frustrating… I don’t quit.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I’m pretty active on social media (Instagram: @author.ninamichelle)… And my emails and contact info are found on my pages also. To work with me, or just chat about books/writing- just shoot me an email or DM.
