Community Highlights: Meet Brandie Sanders of Mind Makeover Therapy, LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandie Sanders.

Hi Brandie, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My path into mental health has been shaped by both my professional experience and my own personal healing.

For more than a decade, I’ve worked in case management, crisis intervention, psychiatric care, and maternal infant health. Every role exposed me to people navigating unimaginable loss, trauma, addiction, depression, and emotional overwhelm. While everyone’s circumstances were different, I noticed something they all had in common: trauma doesn’t just leave emotional wounds, it changes the beliefs we hold about ourselves.

I realized many people weren’t struggling because they lacked insight. They were struggling because trauma had convinced them they weren’t safe, worthy, lovable, or capable of trusting themselves.

Then life challenged those same beliefs in me. Experiencing profound grief changed the way I understood healing. For so long, I believed clarity would come from getting answers, finding closure, or finally understanding why things happened the way they did. Survival mode convinces you that control is safety. Breaking free is learning to trust yourself enough to make a different choice.

Today, I’m the founder of Mind Makeover Therapy, where I help people heal beyond survival mode using trauma-informed care, somatic interventions, and mindfulness. Beyond therapy, I create educational content, speak openly about grief and trauma, and hope to make healing feel less overwhelming and more human.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
One of the biggest challenges wasn’t building a holistic therapy business it was having the courage to leave stability for a story that hadn’t been written yet.

For years, I worked in roles that looked successful on paper. But internally, I knew I was being called toward something different.

I’ve learned that “good on paper” can become a trap when your body knows it’s no longer the right place for you.

There wasn’t a guarantee my private practice would succeed. There wasn’t a clear roadmap. There was simply a quiet knowing that I couldn’t ignore anymore.

Around the same time, I was navigating profound personal grief. It taught me one of the most important lessons of my life: to unlearn what it looks like to be strong as a black woman and relearn what it’s like to feel safe.

For so long, I believed clarity came from having all the answers. Instead, I discovered that clarity often comes from continuing to move forward before you can see the whole path.

I work with women who have lived years in survival mode break free from patterns of self abandonment. Healy isn’t always about finding certainty. Sometimes it’s about trusting yourself enough to choose peace over familiarity, even when the familiar looks good from the outside.
The journey has led me to build a practice that feels deeply aligned with who I am and how I believe healing happens. Transforming mind, body and spirit.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Mind Makeover Therapy, LLC?
Mind Makeover Therapy specializes in trauma, attachment wounds, anxiety, grief and helping people move from survival mode into genuine emotional safety.

What sets my practice apart is that I don’t simply ask, “What’s wrong with you?” I ask, “What happened to you, and what beliefs did those experiences create?”

I help clients understand how trauma shapes their nervous system, relationships, identity, and sense of self. My approach combines evidence-based treatments like EMDR, DBT, mindfulness, and somatic interventions with deep conversations about identity, self-trust, and emotional safety.

Outside of therapy, I focus heavily on psychoeducation through creative content and storytelling. More than anything, I want people to know they aren’t broken. Often, they’re simply living according to beliefs that made sense when they were surviving but no longer serve the life they’re trying to build.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
I’m incredibly grateful for every supervisor, mentor, colleague, and client who trusted me throughout my career. Each workplace—from case management to crisis intervention, psychiatry, and maternal health—helped shape the clinician I am today.

My family has also played a significant role in my journey. Their love, encouragement, and belief in me gave me the courage to continue pursuing this work, even when it felt uncertain.

Most importantly, I owe so much to my clients.

They have trusted me with some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives, and they’ve continually reminded me that healing isn’t about perfection—it’s about courage. They inspire me every single day to continue learning, growing, and showing up authentically.

Every person I’ve met along this journey has contributed to the therapist, business owner, and person I’m becoming.
