Today we’d like to introduce you to Tammy McCreadie.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My story does not start where most wellness founders’ stories start. I spent 24 years in corporate America as a senior leader in event planning and production at one of the country’s largest financial companies. I was exceptional at my work. What I did not know how to do was take care of myself. I was the woman everyone depended on — capable, consistent, and quietly running on empty.
In 2023 I made one of the scariest decisions of my life. I walked away from a 24-year career with no safety net and no clear plan — only a deep, un-ignorable sense that my next chapter had to be built around something more aligned with who I actually was. I found Ayurveda. And then I found myself.
I went back to school, earned my certification; became a holistic health coach with a foundation in Ayurveda, and founded Ubodhi — which means U Awaken. I wanted to create the thing I wish had existed for me. A brand with no noise, no filler, and no one-size-fits-all prescriptions. Just honest, deeply personal wellness for people who are ready to choose themselves — possibly for the first time.
Today Ubodhi offers corporate wellness workshops and retreats through Ubodhi for Business — bringing whole-body wellness experiences to organizations ready to invest in their people in a way that goes far beyond the ordinary — alongside a curated Holistic Health Kit, quarterly magazine, and personalized holistic health coaching. We also host The Unwind — a monthly gathering in Detroit for people ready to slow down, connect, and exhale together — in partnership with Femology at NewLab. I am 53, more at home in myself than I have ever been, and Ubodhi is just getting started.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Smooth is not a word I would use — but I would not change a moment of it.
Leaving a 24-year career without a roadmap is humbling in ways nobody warns you about. The identity crisis alone is significant. When you have spent decades being defined by what you do and how well you do it, stepping away from that can leave you feeling unmoored in ways that are hard to articulate to people who have not lived it.
Building Ubodhi has also meant learning an entirely new skill set. I knew how to lead teams and produce world-class events. I did not know how to build a brand, write a newsletter, create content, sell a product, or pitch a corporate client. Every one of those has been a learning curve — sometimes exhilarating, sometimes humbling, always worth it.
The deeper struggle has been the internal one. Learning to trust that what I survived and what I healed from was not just my story — it was my qualification. That the very things I spent years being ashamed of were the things that made Ubodhi real and necessary. That took time to believe. Some days I am still working on it.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Ubodhi ?
I am a certified holistic health coach and the founder of Ubodhi — a wellness brand rooted in ancient tradition and made practical for modern life. What I specialize in is the intersection of two worlds that most people never see in the same room: the corporate world and the wellness world. I have lived deeply in both, and that dual fluency is what sets Ubodhi apart.
Most wellness practitioners understand healing but have never sat inside a Fortune-level company feeling the particular pressure that comes with high performance and high stakes. Most corporate wellness vendors understand business but have never done the deep personal work of actually healing themselves. I have done both. And I bring both into every room I walk into.
Through Ubodhi for Business I design and facilitate corporate wellness workshops and retreats that go far beyond what a generic program or a wellness app can deliver. Every experience is personalized, every participant leaves with something specific to them, and every detail is handled end to end — because I spent 24 years as a senior leader in event production knowing exactly what it takes to create an experience that actually lands.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I used to think luck had very little to do with my life. I was someone who worked hard, showed up consistently, and believed that outcomes were earned. And then I started looking more honestly at my story and realized that is only part of the truth.
The first stroke of luck came early — falling into a corporate career that I never formally planned for. I had dreamed of nursing, but formal schooling was a challenge for me at that time and life took a different turn. What I found instead was a 24-year career in leadership, event planning and production that gave me skills, discipline, relationships, and a front-row seat to what high performance actually costs the human body. I could not have designed a better education for what I would eventually build.
The good luck has continued to show up in extraordinary ways when I stop to name it. I was lucky to find Ayurveda when I did — at a moment when I was finally still enough to receive it. I was lucky to have the financial runway to walk away from a career and build something new. I was lucky that the people who have shown up in Ubodhi’s orbit — collaborators, partners, community members — have been genuinely generous and aligned. That is not strategy. That is grace.
The bad luck has been the kind that only reveals itself as a gift in hindsight. The years of struggle, the painful chapters, the long road to understanding myself — none of that felt lucky while I was living it. But every single piece of it became the foundation of Ubodhi. The hard parts are not incidental to what I built. They are the reason it is real.
So I suppose my honest answer is that luck has played an enormous role — I just had to live long enough and heal enough to be able to see it clearly.
