Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Megha Mohey.
Hi Dr. Megha, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve been practicing medicine for more than 20 years, and for most of that time I worked as a traditional internal medicine physician. I loved building long-term relationships with my patients, but over the years I found myself increasingly frustrated by a pattern I saw every day. People would come to me exhausted, struggling with weight gain, brain fog, digestive issues, or hormonal changes, and their lab work would often come back “normal.” They knew something wasn’t right, and I knew there had to be more to the story.
That realization led me to explore integrative and functional medicine. I completed a fellowship through the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona, pursued additional training in functional medicine, medical acupuncture, and lifestyle medicine, and began looking at health through a much broader lens. Instead of simply asking, “What disease does this patient have?” I became more interested in asking, “Why is this happening, and what can we do to restore health?”
I founded Way Health because I wanted to create the kind of practice that gives patients the time, partnership, and individualized care that modern healthcare often can’t provide. My approach combines the best of conventional medicine with evidence-based nutrition, lifestyle medicine, hormone optimization, gut health, and longevity strategies. I still believe deeply in the value of traditional medicine, but I also believe we can do much more to help people feel their best before disease develops.
Today, my passion is helping people move beyond simply treating symptoms. My goal is to help patients understand their body, uncover the root causes of what they’re experiencing, and create a personalized plan that allows them to thrive. For me, medicine has always been about improving lives, and I feel incredibly fortunate to do work that aligns so closely with that purpose.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. One of the biggest challenges has been trying to practice the kind of medicine I believe in within a healthcare system that often rewards volume over relationships. Like many physicians, I found myself caught between wanting to spend more time with patients and the realities of short appointment times, increasing administrative demands, and insurance-driven care.
Starting Way Health while continuing to practice internal medicine has been both exciting and incredibly challenging. Building a business from the ground up requires wearing a lot of hats – physician, entrepreneur, marketer, educator, and leader. None of those came with a manual in medical school. There have been plenty of moments of uncertainty, wondering if I could really create a practice that aligned with my values while also making it sustainable.
I’ve also learned that doing things differently isn’t always easy. Integrative and functional medicine are sometimes misunderstood, and I’ve had to be thoughtful about staying grounded in science while remaining open to emerging evidence and individualized care. My goal has never been to reject conventional medicine, but to build on it.
Perhaps the biggest lesson has been learning that growth takes patience. Whether it’s helping a patient restore their health or building a practice, meaningful change rarely happens overnight. Looking back, every challenge has pushed me to become a better physician, a better listener, and a better leader. Those experiences have reinforced why I started this journey in the first place – to create a model of care where patients feel heard, understood, and empowered to take charge of their health.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Way Integrative and Functional Health was created from a simple belief: healthcare should help people thrive, not just treat disease once it develops. After more than two decades practicing internal medicine, I saw too many patients who had been told their labs were “normal,” yet they were struggling with fatigue, weight gain, digestive issues, hormonal changes, brain fog, or simply not feeling like themselves. They deserved more than reassurance, they deserved answers.
My practice blends the best of conventional medicine with evidence-based integrative, functional, and longevity medicine. I believe these approaches are complementary, not competing. We use a comprehensive evaluation to understand each person’s unique story and develop personalized strategies that may include nutrition, lifestyle, sleep optimization, stress management, targeted supplements, hormone optimization when appropriate, and advanced diagnostic testing.
What truly sets Way Health apart is time and partnership. Healing doesn’t happen in a rushed 15-minute appointment. I work closely with my patients to understand not only their symptoms but also their goals, values, and the life they want to live. Together, we create a sustainable plan that supports long-term health rather than offering quick fixes.
I’m especially passionate about helping people in midlife navigate hormonal transitions, metabolic health, gut health, and healthy aging. My goal isn’t simply to add years to life, it’s to help people add life to their years, with more energy, resilience, and vitality.
What I’m most proud of is creating a practice that reflects the kind of medicine I always wanted to practice: one that is deeply rooted in science, genuinely personalized, and focused on helping people feel their best long before disease develops.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
People often assume that because I practice integrative and functional medicine, I rejected conventional medicine. In reality, I still practice internal medicine and deeply value evidence-based medicine. My passion has never been about replacing conventional care, it’s about expanding it and helping patients find answers when traditional approaches don’t fully explain what they’re experiencing.
