Check Out Steven McCannon’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Steven McCannon.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I Steve “The Animal” McCannon have been playing drums for 18 years. I live in Richmond Michigan. I’ve toured all throughout the Detroit scene and nationally for 12 years as well as to states like Tennessee, Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky,Tennessee etc. I grew up listening to 80s hair bands i always thought that their stage show for the 80s bands were always amazing. My favorite band growing up is kiss I’ve always loved there make up, look and there amazing high energy show. In school growing up i was band in orchestral band I was the snare drum and timpani player. In my high-school years I play in the jazz band that was a great experience for me because it made it so I was Able to become more versatile as a musician. I’ve played in many original bands over the years from many different genres like country, Christian rock, hair rock, metal, jazz, blues, death metal and country I’ve also down work as a drum tech and even been the merch guy for bands like L.A. guns and Drowning pool. I’ve opened up for bands like LA Guns, Sebastian Bach, Faster pussycat, Tuff, Enuff Z’Nuff, Seether, Hed PE, Etc. 

I currently play in an original band called Kougaran we are Rock band based out of Detroit Dubbed The Hellions of Rock n Roll. I also play in Unusual Mindset and Ytterbium which our both original metal bands based out of Flint Michigan.

I am also a content Creator I post Live videos of me Playing live with bands, gear review videos, drum covers and anything drum or music related.

I have also done a lot of hired gun/ Fill in Gigs on drums. I’ve worked with my bands and solo artists doing in fill in gigs live and in the studio.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I feel that everyone that’s plays music has had a few struggles along their music journey. I’ve had health struggles, financial struggles but music has always been an outlet and a safe space for me to escape any struggles I’ve had in my life and throughout my music journey.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a national touring drummer I do live sessions and studio sessions with bands and solo artists.

I have also sold merch and ran the merch booth for bands like L.A. Guns and Drowning Pool.

I am also currently working on starting a mobile drum teaching/lesson service.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Detroit is a very diverse city it is multiple cultural, build on hard working people who have grit. It has a very diverse music scene where you can find every genre all throughout the city.

  • I don’t have a set price it’s negotiable depending on the event, how long the event is and what venue the event is at.
