Conversations with Camren Clouthier

Today we’d like to introduce you to Camren Clouthier.

Hi Camren, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My photography and videography journey originally started back when I was a freshman in high school. I had no idea what I wanted to do in my life or with my career. So, I took an elective class in media production, just to see what it was all about. Little did I know, it sparked my interest and would eventually become my greatest passion.

I knew I wanted more, which led me to enroll at Eastern Michigan University, where I majored in Digital Media Production and Film/Cinema Studies. I completed four years at EMU, earning my Bachelor’s degree. As I continued to hone my craft, I eventually launched my official company, called C2 Visual Media, LLC.

Today, I specialize in providing creative photography, videography, editing and drone work to a wide array of clients all over Michigan. Whether it’s a sporting event, a wedding, or something in between, I’ll get my hands on whatever creative projects come my way.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Of course it’s been a bumpy road along the way. There have been a number of challenges and difficult situations over the years. From everything to time-consuming projects, to a corrupt memory card, I’ve dealt with nearly everything under the sun. Some days certainly haven’t been easy, but that’s OK, because it’s all a part of the journey.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in offering photography, videography, editing and drone services across Metro Detroit.

I’m most proud of my creative spirit and positive attitude, which has allowed me to find success working with a huge variety of clients, partners and companies over the past several years.

I’d say the number one thing that sets me apart from others in a similar position is my passion for what I do. I put my heart and soul into all of the work that I produce. It’s what gets me out of bed each day and is truly what keeps me going.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Throughout my career, I’ve had a couple strong mentors who have guided, supported and assisted me within my creative pursuits.

The first is Mr. Joe Elliott, my now-retired filmmaking and photography teacher at Henry Ford II High School in Sterling Heights, Michigan. During high school, Mr. Elliott constantly challenged me. He motivated me to test my limits, try new things and be prolific. In high school, Mr. Elliott appointed me as a Director for the school’s television newscast, where I gained experience directing, shooting, editing and more. At the time, I didn’t realize how much I was being set up for the future. Yet, the skills I learned back then have continued to play an important role within my career today. I am forever grateful to Joe for his endless support and friendship whenever I’ve needed it.

Another important figure in my life has been my marketing colleague, Ted Coutilish. I first met Ted while I was an undergraduate student at Eastern Michigan University, where I worked for him in the Division of Communications. Ted believed in me from the very beginning and took me under his wing for any and every creative project that came about. Over the years, I’ve been fortunate enough to continue to work alongside Ted in a variety of other areas including at the University of Michigan, Village of Grosse Pointe Shores, Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, Yellow Flag Productions, and several others. He has always been there for whatever problem I’ve faced or whenever I have needed a friend. In fact, even at the lowest point in my career, Ted has continued to be relentless a source of guidance and motivation, uplifting me even when I couldn’t inspire myself. I am eternally thankful for Ted’s coaching and leadership, as he has undoubtedly helped mold me into the creative professional that I am today.
