Check Out Andre Barnett’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andre Barnett.

Andre, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My Story & The Birth of FMH

FMH, which stands for Fighting Mental Health, started from my own personal battle with mental health. Before it became a clothing brand, it was simply a way for me to express what I was going through.

While attending Cleveland Job Corps in Cleveland, Ohio, I would sit with a notepad and pencil and draw how I felt. Art became an outlet for emotions that were difficult to put into words. Those sketches, ideas, and messages helped me process my struggles and gave me a sense of purpose during some challenging times.

As I continued to grow, I realized that I wasn’t the only person fighting these battles. So many people struggle with mental health every day, often in silence. That’s when the idea for FMH was born. I wanted to create more than a clothing brand—I wanted to create a movement that encourages people to keep fighting, keep pushing forward, and know they are not alone.

What started as drawings on a notepad has evolved into a brand with a mission. Every FMH design represents strength, resilience, and the determination to overcome life’s challenges. Through fashion, I hope to start conversations about mental health, break the stigma surrounding it, and inspire others to embrace their journey.

Today, FMH continues to grow, but the purpose remains the same: to remind people that no matter what they are facing, they can keep fighting. FMH is more than clothing—it’s a symbol of perseverance, hope, and the belief that our struggles do not define us.

FMH isn’t just a brand. It’s a movement. It’s a message. It’s Fighting Mental Health.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. One of the biggest challenges has been building FMH largely on my own. As a small business owner, I’ve had to wear many hats and handle almost every aspect of the brand myself—from designing products and managing inventory to marketing, promotions, shipping orders, and creating new collections.

There have been times when it felt like I had to work twice as hard just to get the brand noticed. Building awareness, reaching new customers, and competing with larger brands requires a lot of dedication, consistency, and patience. There are countless hours behind the scenes that people don’t see.

At the same time, those challenges have helped me grow as both an entrepreneur and a person. Every obstacle has taught me something valuable about persistence, discipline, and believing in my vision even when things get difficult.

The mission behind FMH—Fighting Mental Health—has always kept me motivated. Knowing that the brand can inspire others and start meaningful conversations about mental health reminds me why I started in the first place. The journey hasn’t been easy, but every challenge has made the success even more meaningful.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am the founder and CEO of FMH DRE as well as FMH (Fighting Mental Health) and FMHDRE brands and platforms built around mental health awareness, empowerment, and personal growth. FMH is the guy you see on all platforms doing workouts and showing many physical, spiritual, and emotional ways to deal with mental health. My work extends beyond clothing and entrepreneurship—I am passionate about helping people recognize their value, overcome challenges, and understand that they are not alone in their struggles.
Professionally, I work as a Mental Health Technician (MHT) at Meridell Achievement Center, where I have the opportunity to support and mentor young people facing emotional, behavioral, and mental health challenges. This work has given me firsthand insight into the importance of compassion, encouragement, and creating safe spaces where people can heal and grow.
Outside of my professional role, I am involved in motivational speaking, sharing my personal experiences and encouraging others to keep pushing forward despite life’s obstacles. I am also involved in organizing and supporting mental health festivals and community events that bring people together, raise awareness, and promote open conversations about mental wellness.
What I specialize in is turning personal experiences into purpose. Through FMH, speaking engagements, community outreach, and mental health advocacy, my goal is to inspire people to keep fighting, keep growing, and never give up on themselves.
What I am most proud of is seeing FMH grow from sketches in a notebook into a movement that impacts people’s lives. Knowing that a message, design, conversation, or event can help someone feel understood or motivated is incredibly rewarding.
What sets me apart is that my work comes from lived experience. Everything I do is rooted in authenticity. I don’t just talk about mental health—I live the mission every day through my career, my brand, my community involvement, and my commitment to helping others. FMH isn’t just a business; it’s a reflection of my journey and my dedication to creating positive change in the lives of others.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?

The most important lesson I’ve learned is that growth takes time, and you can’t give up on yourself when things don’t happen as quickly as you hoped. Building FMH, working in mental health, organizing community events, and pursuing my goals has taught me that success comes from consistency, patience, and believing in your purpose even when nobody else sees the vision yet.

I’ve also learned that asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness. Through my own mental health journey and my work helping others, I’ve seen how important it is to have support, stay connected, and keep moving forward one day at a time.

Another lesson I’ve learned is that your struggles can become your purpose. What once felt like some of my biggest challenges eventually became the foundation for FMH and my passion for helping others. Instead of allowing difficult experiences to define me, I learned to use them as motivation to create something positive.

Today, I live by the belief that every setback is an opportunity to grow, every challenge is a lesson, and every day is another chance to keep fighting. That’s the message behind FMH and the lesson I carry with me in everything I do.
