Today we’d like to introduce you to Antonio Hood.
Hi Antonio, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I am Antonio Hood, a 23 year old music producer/musical theatre writer, composer and actor. I have been making beats since 2016 in 7th grade. My mama introduced me to Magix Music Maker, and then Fl Studio. I share the love of music with a lot of my family members, especially my Dad and my Auntie. I was on the drumlin in school and then I was on the Detroit Pistons drumlin for the 2023-24 season. As far as theatre, I joined later in life. I went to go see Hamilton at the Fisher Theatre, and it got me inspired. I seen that my college was holding auditions for the winter play, so I took a chance and auditioned, and somehow I got in. Since then I’ve done 9 productions. I recently realized that my true calling is composition and writing. It literally combined both of my passions, music production and musical theatre. I am currently writing my first musical, which should hopefully go into production really soon. I am working at Sanctuary Studios as an engineer/producer/media. I recently attended the Broadway Al Monte program. It’s a 2 week intensive in Italy, ran by broadway professionals. We rehearsed form 9-5, 5 days a week and we put on a concert for the Italian neighborhood we were in. I have a huge support system, between my friends, family and my girlfriend. Without them I would not be where I’m at.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The biggest struggle was just pushing through when things got discouraging. The teachers and mentors I have in my life keep me going even to this day. Huge shoutout to Mr. Young, Ms. Kee, Mr. Ross, Mr. Elstone, Ms. Lentz, Jennifer Little, Lisa Melinn, Frank Pitts, Curtis Rowe, Teri Hansen, Andy Peterson, Shane Bland and Jupiter, without them and their constant support, I would not be as confident in my abilities as I am.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a music producer who specializes in Hip hop, r&b, and pop. I’ve worked with hundreds of artists from all over the world. Networking is probably my strongest quality. I meet a lot of like minded people and keep them in close contact. I met a lotto people through the Underground Retreats hosted by Patrick Stafford. We spent a week in a huge mansion in Orlando Florida and made music and memories all week. That inspired me to create my own version of a music camp/retreat, not only for the underground/mainstream sound, but also for musical theatre. More info on that to come. I am probably most proud of the album I put together in 2021, from artists of different genres from all over the world via TikTok. What sets me apart is my ability to combine my talents into “regular” music and musical theatre.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
A lot of people probably won’t know that I am 6 foot 8, until they meet me in person. People probably wouldn’t know that I am a professional local videographer/photographer. Everyone who knows me knows that I love taking pictures for memory making (probably because I bring at least 3 of my 9 different cameras everywhere I go), but they wouldn’t know I am a professional.
