Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordyn Zank.
Jordyn , we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve always had such a love for people, helping them in any way that I could and hopefully making a difference in their lives. I promised myself a long time ago that I would never invest in a career if it didn’t fully light me up inside every single day. I wanted to wake up excited to go to work, inspired to keep learning, growing, and becoming better for the people I served.
Before becoming an Esthetician, I waited tables for several restaurants. Looking back, I think that’s really where this journey started. I used to ask my tables one simple question: “Do you love what you do for work?” If they said no, I’d ask, “If you could go back, what would you do instead?” It amazed me how many people answered with their passion instead of the career they had chosen. So many of them said they wished they had listened to that quiet voice earlier. Those conversations stayed with me. They gave me the courage to wait until I found something that truly felt like it was meant for me instead of rushing into a career because I thought I had to. Then one day I met a woman who spoke very highly about being an Esthetician, at one of my tables. I remember hearing her talk about what she did and something in me immediately sparked. I couldn’t explain it, I just knew I wanted to learn more. The deeper I got into Esthetics, the more I realized I wasn’t just interested in skincare. I was fascinated by the body as a whole. I wanted to understand why our skin changes, what it’s communicating, the internal connection, and how we could support it from a root-cause approach instead of simply chasing symptoms.
Fresh out of school, I started working at a small spa downtown. It was a wonderful first step, but after a year I found myself craving more education and more collaboration. I wanted to work alongside providers who viewed these treatments as part of someone’s healthcare, not just self-care. Not long after setting that intention, I received a phone call that completely changed the course of my career. Natalie Novak, owner of KPS Essentials and someone who has since become one of my greatest mentors, saw something in me, and invited me to join a holistic medical practice where I worked alongside physicians and other providers for the next five years. For the next five years I immersed myself in learning everything I possibly could. Every day I was learning about hormones, gut health, metabolic health, nervous system regulation, lymphatic health, environmental toxins, supplementation, IV therapy, whole foods, circadian rhythm, grounding, and how beautifully connected the body really is. I wasn’t only learning through education, I was learning through my clients and walking through my own healing journey right alongside them. Many of those clients are still with me today, and it’s been one of the greatest honors of my career to continue supporting them and their families through so many different seasons of life.
Eventually I felt a pull to create something of my own. Alchemy Esthetic Studio was built from one simple belief: that everyone deserves a space where they can return home to themselves. Life has become so “go, go, go.” I started noticing how many people walked into my treatment room carrying stress in their bodies before they ever said a word. They weren’t just looking for clearer skin. They were craving somewhere they could finally exhale. I wanted Alchemy to become that place, a space where people felt seen, educated, cared for, and empowered. A place where we slow down long enough to listen to what the skin and body are communicating and support them from the inside out. That vision has grown more than I ever imagined. Within our first year we expanded into a larger space, added a second treatment room, hired my incredible Esthetician Avery, and recently opened our Wellness Room—a quiet space where clients can begin, end, or simply carve out a moment of stillness through red light therapy, compression therapy, a vibration plate, and intentional nervous system support. Every addition has been made with one question in mind: “How can we better support the people who trust us?”
One of the things I’m most passionate about is community. I truly believe it takes a village to heal. That’s why we intentionally collaborate with other small businesses and holistic practitioners throughout Grand Rapids. When providers work together instead of separately, people receive more thoughtful, well-rounded care. Watching those relationships grow has been one of the most rewarding parts of building this business. I’ve always said I’ll be a forever student. Every season of life asks something different of the body, whether that’s various skin conditions, pregnancy, postpartum, perimenopause, menopause, chronic inflammation, or simply navigating the stress of everyday life. I feel a responsibility to keep learning so I can continue showing up for my clients in the best way I know how. Looking back, I’m incredibly grateful I listened to that promise I made to myself all those years ago. I truly wake up excited to go to work every day. I get to hold space for incredible people, build relationships that feel incredibly meaningful, educate others about their health and wellness, and watch them leave feeling lighter, more empowered, and more connected to themselves than when they walked in. For me, that’s what Alchemy has always been about. Yes, we care deeply about skin, but more than anything, we care so deeply about people. And it’s an absolute honor to do this work every single day.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Honestly, yes and no.
Every season of this journey has asked me to meet a new version of myself. Early on in my career, it was building confidence and trusting myself, trusting that I had something meaningful to offer. Then it became stepping into public speaking and learning to share my passion with larger groups of people. Then it shifted into learning who I was as a business owner, not just as an Esthetician. Each season has stretched me in a completely different way. Looking back now, I wouldn’t change any of it, even if I could. Every challenge gave me something I needed for the next chapter.
It taught me how to become a better leader, a better mentor to Avery, and a better business owner because I experienced firsthand what supportive leadership looked like and what it didn’t. Those experiences shaped the kind of environment I wanted to create for both my team and my clients. There have absolutely been unexpected hurdles along the way. Timelines shifted. Renovations took longer than expected. Expenses came up that I didn’t originally plan for. In the beginning, I believed everything needed to happen on a certain timeline or look a certain way before I was “ready.” But owning a business quickly taught me that nothing is ever perfect, and honestly, that’s the beauty of it.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is to reframe every obstacle into the question, “What is this trying to teach me?” or “Maybe this simply isn’t the right timing yet.” I try to lead both my business and my life with the belief that things are happening for us, not against us. That mindset has carried me through every challenge.
At the end of the day, every speed bump has strengthened my trust—in myself, in the process, and in the fact that if I continue leading with integrity and genuinely caring for people, the right clients will always find Alchemy when they’re ready for this kind of work. That perspective has given me a lot of peace as a business owner and has allowed me to enjoy the journey instead of constantly chasing the next milestone.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m the Lead Esthetician and Owner of Alchemy Esthetic Studio, but more than anything, I see myself as someone who helps people better understand what their skin and body are communicating to them. This work truly feels like art to me. Every client who walks through our doors is completely different, and I believe every treatment should be too. Everyone arrives as a blank canvas, carrying a different story, a different season of life, and different needs. My role is to meet them exactly where they’re at that day and create an experience that’s completely tailored to them.
I specialize in taking a functional, root-cause approach to skin health. Rather than simply treating what we see on the surface, I love understanding why it’s happening in the first place. The skin is our largest organ, and I believe it’s constantly communicating with us. Whether it’s acne, dermatitis, inflammation, sensitivity, premature aging, pigmentation, hormonal changes, or simply stress showing up within the body, my goal is to bridge the gap between what your skin is asking for and how we can intentionally support it. I’ve never believed we have to injure the skin in order for it to heal. Instead, I believe the body was designed to heal, and our role is to nourish it with the right vitamins, minerals, nutrients, movement, and treatments so it can do exactly what it was created to do.
The treatments that we offer were intentionally designed to support people through every season of life. I specialize in KPS Essentials holistic skincare and offer nutrient-dense facial treatments that nourish the skin on a cellular level. Our Alchemy Signature Facial is a beautiful introduction to treating your skin while incorporating specific modalities such as facial cupping, gua sha, and facial massage techniques that support your lymphatic system and the fascia, while the Renew & Repair Facial is designed for those navigating acne, dermatitis, eczema, rosacea, barrier impairment, or other skin conditions requiring a gentler, restorative approach. We also offer the Enzyme Plant Peel, which beautifully refreshes and revitalizes the skin without chemicals or downtime, the Alchemized Mother Facial for mothers, mothers-to-be, and anyone craving a deeply nurturing experience, and our Gentleman’s Facial, designed specifically for men’s skin health and lifestyle.
I’m also certified in Advanced Facial Massage and Sculptural Buccal Facial Massage, an advanced intra-oral technique that works both inside and outside the mouth to melt away facial tension, TMJ dysfunction, clenching, grinding, swelling, and fascial restriction while naturally lifting and sculpting the face. Alongside that, I specialize in Slimsagé™ treatments, which are often misunderstood as massage, but they’re so much more than that. Slimsagé™ is an advanced metabolic, lymphatic, and recovery-enhancing therapy that works within the fascia, lymphatic system, and tissue environment where stagnation, restriction, inflammation, and congestion often begin. By supporting lymphatic drainage, circulation, tissue oxygenation, fascial mobility, nervous system regulation, and fat metabolization, we’re helping the body recover, repair, and function the way it was always designed to.
One of the things clients often tell me is that my treatments don’t just improve their skin health, they help them feel like themselves again. I think that’s because massage has always been at the heart of everything I do. Whether it’s a facial, Buccal treatment, or Slimsagé™ session, I believe restoring movement to the fascia, encouraging healthy lymphatic flow, and helping someone regulate their nervous system is one of the greatest gifts we can offer. We’re all carrying tension somewhere, and when that tension begins to soften, everything else often follows.
What I’m most proud of isn’t necessarily one treatment or certification. It’s the space we’ve created. Alchemy has become a place where people feel safe enough to exhale. The moment someone walks through our doors, my intention is that they feel fully cared for. I want every client to know they’re being listened to, not only through the words they share but through what their skin and body are communicating as well.
I’m also incredibly proud of the relationships we’ve built over the years. My clients aren’t just appointments on my schedule; they’re the reason I jump out of bed every morning excited to go to work. Supporting someone through one season of life is an honor, but supporting them through many seasons, watching them become mothers, navigate perimenopause, heal their skin, reduce inflammation, or simply find routines that make them feel more grounded is something I’ll never take for granted.
Education is another huge part of my practice. I’m known for the thoughtful follow-up care I provide after every appointment because I want clients to feel empowered long after they’ve left the treatment room. I spend a great deal of time creating individualized plans, explaining what’s happening within their body, and giving them realistic tools and rituals they can incorporate into their everyday lives. I truly believe healing should feel empowering, enjoyable, and sustainable and not overwhelming.
If there’s one thing that sets me apart, it’s that I don’t believe one practitioner has all the answers. I truly believe there’s a practitioner for everyone, and I value the incredible village of physicians, chiropractors, nutritionists, massage therapists, and holistic providers I collaborate with throughout our community. When we work together instead of separately, clients receive a much deeper level of support than any one of us could provide alone.
I also work hard to ensure I’m showing up as my best self every day. The work I do requires me to hold space for people, so I prioritize my own nervous system and healing just as much as I encourage my clients to prioritize theirs. I believe the safest spaces are created by people whose own cup is full enough to genuinely care for others.
Above all, I believe every person is capable of healing. The body is incredibly intelligent, and when we begin nourishing it instead of constantly fighting against it, remarkable things can happen. My hope is that every client leaves Alchemy feeling more educated, more empowered, more connected to themselves, and knowing they have someone walking alongside them not just for one appointment, but for every season that follows.
What matters most to you?
What matters most to me is the impact I leave behind on this world. I genuinely wake up every day excited to help people in any way that I can, to make a meaningful difference, and to leave people feeling better than I found them. If someone walks away feeling more hopeful, more empowered, more understood, or simply more connected to themselves, then I’ve done what I set out to do.
That same intention extends beyond people. I care deeply about honoring and preserving nature and the Earth that we’ve been entrusted to care for. I find so much peace, perspective, and healing in the natural world, and I believe it’s our responsibility to protect it, respect it, and leave it better than we found it for future generations. Whether it’s caring for people or caring for the planet, both come from the same place in my heart, a deep gratitude for the life we’ve been given and a desire to leave a positive impact wherever I can.
I’m incredibly grateful that Alchemy has given me the opportunity to live out those values every single day. I also feel so fortunate to be surrounded by people who share that same intention, especially my significant other, Dustin, my Esthetician Avery and our friends and family. They continually inspire me to lead with kindness, purpose, and service, and I hope that’s the legacy I leave behind: that I cared deeply, served wholeheartedly, and left both people and this beautiful Earth a little better than I found them.
