Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Lutz.
Hi Megan, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve worked at multiple doggy daycares including The Barkshire, Canine to Five and Camp Bow Wow. I worked as a grooming assistant at Deporre Vet and also managed a company called PetCare AuPair doing pet visits and walks. I did dog training and consultations at Sit Means Sit for 6 years where they had a slatmill. I saw the benefits it provided dogs and decided to make a business out of it.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
There’s always challenges such as finding a van that has the structure I need. Building out the flooring the properly secure the slatmills in the back. On a daily basis, it’s more interesting than a struggle to see how a dog will react on the slatmill and what their motivation is.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about K9 Kardio?
I am a mobile dog gym, I have 2 slatmill in the back of my van and I make house calls. A slatmill is a dog powered treadmill, so the dog decides how fast or slow they go and when they take breaks. A slatmill has a lot of benefits, it helps exhaust a dog’s energy, builds muscle, helps with anxiety/stress, helps the cardiovascular system. Any reason it’s good for a human to run, is a good reason for a dog to run. Playing fetch causes a dog to pivot which can slowly damage joints, a slatmill is a straight track so there’s no quick turns! I’m the first one in Michigan to go mobile and the only one to make house calls while the owner is away from home which doubles as a great mid-day potty break since I always potty the dog before and after their session. I have been working with dogs since 2011, so I have a lot of experience with dog behavior and reading their cues.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love the friendly people and how often I see people out with their dogs. The people in this area care alot about their dogs and I love that! Deoending on the city you go to, parking can be an issue with such a big van.
