Daily Inspiration: Meet Karai Brown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Karai Brown.

Hi Karai, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
As a child, my mom worked night shifts, so she often tells the story of setting up a camcorder on a tripod to act as my babysitter. I would stand in front of it and film myself for hours, completely entertained by the idea of being on camera. Looking back, it’s a funny early sign of how comfortable I became with expressing myself and creating content. Over time, that curiosity grew into a real interest in storytelling and media, and it’s helped shape where I am today!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
One of the biggest challenges has been staying confident and not getting discouraged during periods when I’m stuck in a content rut or don’t have new ideas. Since the content is centered around me, it can also be difficult at times to maintain a healthy relationship with how I see myself on camera. I’ve had to learn how to be more patient with myself, focus on growth instead of perfection, and not be overly critical when things aren’t coming together creatively.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a content creator specializing in lifestyle and fashion content, with a niche focus on Detroit. I’m most proud of being able to turn what started as a hobby into something that has grown into a real part of my career. I was working full time as a nurse while creating content on my days off, and over time I transitioned into part time nursing while building income through social media.

My goal is to eventually step fully into content creation. What sets me apart is that I bring balance from two different worlds, I’m both in STEM and a creative. Even though my content doesn’t focus on nursing, my background has shaped my discipline, work ethic, and how I approach consistency and growth in my creative work.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
Pinterest is my go-to for inspiration and staying up to date on trends. I use it constantly to gather ideas and help guide my creative direction.
My Notes app is also something I rely on heavily for planning, organizing ideas, and keeping track of everything I’m working on.
For video editing, I use CapCut.
