Daily Inspiration: Meet Leighcia Meylan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Leighcia Meylan.

Hi Leighcia, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started out doing wedding makeup as a side gig back in 2015 when some co-workers wanted me to help out with family weddings. It started to become more and more common for me to be booked, but I couldn’t afford to go to school full time and quit my job.

Once the pandemic hit in 2020, I was laid off and able to get unemployment and that allowed me to be able to do school full time and get my esthetic license.

I started out in a salon right out of school and unfortunately it didn’t work out long term and a room wasn’t available for me to booth rent. So I had to take a leap of faith and I opened my own store front salon with what money I had, and some hopes and prayers.

It felt like I was starting over again, and in a pandemic non the less. Thankfully, God allowed me to grow with further education, experience, and a loyal clientele and I’m now booked up, doing a job I absolutely love and doing it my own way.

I now offer a massive array of services as it keeps me from getting bored and burnt out and my clients who trust me, can come and get multiple services in a sitting.

I do Spray tans, Hungarian Facials, all things eyebrows- specializing in nano brows, permanent makeup and paramedical tattooing, regular tattooing, ear piercing, ISR, lash lifting and tinting,
and makeup.

My salon is a single person studio for one on one attention with a home like feel where anyone is welcome.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I’d say unfortunately it’s not been smooth, but then again, it’s afforded me a lot of wisdom from my experiences. From being told I’d have a place in a salon after graduation and it not happening, to building a salon with zip clientele and inflated building costs with nothing to fund it but prayers and the last bit of change left to my name.

At the time of opening, I didn’t have a single dollar left, and was doing side work in a relatives yard for gas money. I also had sustained an injury from the build that I still have to this day!

To get the ball rolling, I was posting online, running deals that barely let me pay the bills so I could get people in the door and worked 7 days a week to take absolutely anyone who gave me a chance.

I stayed up for hrs at night to learn new brow trends, techniques and procedures so I could be the best. Not better than someone else… just the best. I want to be the absolute best.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m most known for my detailed work with brows. I do waxing, tinting, lamination, nano brows, ombré brows, combo brows and now the Phoenix brow ritual- a rejuvenative treatment that helps regrow real brow hair for fuller, natural brows.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Being able to be the person that people choose to relax, have trust based work done and to be able to do it repeatedly with a grateful heart.

I can pay my bills, put food on my table and gas in my truck while doing something I ACTUALLY love to do. I get to giggle and chat with clients while being artistic- what’s to hate?

  • Permanent brows- $675 total (2 sessions)
  • Phoenix Brow Ritual- $65/ session
