Today we’d like to introduce you to Lexie Brohl.
Hi Lexie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always loved being creative, whether it be through making fun videos for social media or doing a fun DIY. I went to Oakland University for my bachelor’s in graphic design. I freelanced for several years and still do to this day, but my dream was to always have some sort of business of my own. Almost a year ago, I finally started my Etsy shop, creating my own illustrations to put on bookmarks and stickers. As someone who loves buying these at little boutiques, it’s so fun to create my own! And post on my social media about all of the things that inspire my art!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I had to work several tough jobs in order to get to the place where I really had the opportunity and drive to say “okay, it’s time to pursue my dream.” Starting up was a little bumpy at times too. I had to learn how to print my own products, what materials I like to use, etc. Lots of trial and error! I also didn’t really see much result from my hard work for a little bit and that can be discouraging. I still go through that today. But when someone does see my work and it brings them joy, it reminds me of why I do what I do.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am an owner of a small stationery business, Made by Lexie Leigh. I create all of the artwork myself and print all of the products out of my home. I am known for my whimsical illustrations and cute designs! I also actively run my social media accounts to be a place of inspiration for anyone who finds it. My goal is to showcase my creations and what inspires them!
I think what sets me apart from others is that I am an active part of my brand. I’m not just another faceless shop. I love to connect with my audience and share all of the things I find joy in that then inspires me to create beautiful things!
What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love all the things to do here! There is always an event or festival to attend and those are always so fun.
Hmmm, what do I like least? Probably the busyness of traffic and large crowds of people, but I know that is inevitable. I’m much more of a suburb kind of girl so I don’t love all the hustle and bustle, personally.
