Conversations with Dakota Roos

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dakota Roos.

Dakota, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
In High School I was in the National Art Honor Society for photography and always loved it, after high school, I went out in the broadcasting world, working in promotions in Detroit Radio stations. I always had a camera in my hand. They started paying me to capture meet and greets, concerts and more. Eventually I shadowed another photographer who showed me the joys of wedding and portrait photography, and I dove in! Over 15 years later I am still in love with the Art, and being along for all of my clients journeys.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Oh it has never been smooth, but where would growth be then? As a business owner, there was a lot of worry and self doubt being both artist, and ‘CEO’, but I have a great team who has evolved with me, and my business!

Changes in trends in the wedding world and always growing as an artist has it’s moments. But you grow through what you go through, and Sunflower has always come out stronger, and consistent with the love we all pour into every session, event and business session.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I love capturing families, weddings and events! Many don’t know this, because I can’t share the images, but I work for a lot of industrial companies, photographing their products, buildings, and machines! It is a lot of fun, and takes my creativity to a different level.

What’s next?
I’m always looking forward to watching my clients families grow and evolve. I love that I get to be apart of their journey. Right now my kids are going into 3rd and 5th grade, and being a mom is the best thing ever! They are starting to show an interest in the camera, so maybe I will have two cute assistants one day 😉
